Good project for Mr Potter- bring a bigshot star out of his own personal mojo-crisis.

If anyone can do it Potter can- get him involved with the group singalong / theatre production / whatever other such stuff he used to get the players involved in at Östersund..

There are quite a few players like him you think are out of our league re wages but then you consider where else are they going to get regular Prem football.

Furthermore, with the possibility of having back to back international tournaments with Euro 21 and Qatar 22 you think that players in and around the England squad might value regular football with a lower club. One thing I like about Gareth Southgate is that he doesn't mind picking a player from an unfashionable club, like Tarkowski, Pope, Ings, Ward-Prowse Callum Wilson.

Lingard's scoring record is not brilliant - 17 in 131 Prem matches, but a high proportion of his goals are spectacular, solo efforts. He likes the bling so I see him at some London club like West Ham or Palace.

There's certainly a good player in there somewhere as he's proven before. It seems that neither he or OGS know what his best position is, or maybe OGS knows but he hasn't been good enough to make that position his own.

If the numbers added up and he wanted to be here, i'd take him....but in all honesty, I don't see where he would fit in. Maybe on one side of a front 3?

27 years of age, over 20 England caps, over 100 appearances for a top 6 side - what's not to like when your pushing for a top 10 PL slot.

Exactly. He started their last game and was decent, as usual. He was not memorable during his time with us, but occasional anonymity is his only real fault these days. He has had a decent career with his local club under several managers. Never gets any flack for his performances. Could flourish under Potter. I am not going to campaign for it but neither am I joining those wha are already writing letters of Outrage to Bamber.

*cough* what reason did he give once for not picking Dunk? *cough*

Personally I hope the level of engagement was us calling United and asking to take James on loan as Potter wants to pick up where they left off. United say no but then offer Lingard on loan instead. Hopefully we said no before they even got as far as telling us we have to cover his bonkers £80k a week wage.

Perhaps even going further it was like Patrick Bateman’s phone call to Dorsia to book a dinner reservation the same day in American Psycho as the sound of laughter rang in OGS’s ears.

I hope not, while I think he's a decent player I think he's the sort who'll end up at one of the mid-table / upper mid-table clubs who seem to have a slightly more lax attitude to wage structures, like Everton or Newcastle.

I'd be very happy if we took him. Big difference between being good enough for United and being good enough for us, generally speaking.

Daniel Storey is excellent and does know his stuff so could be something in this. Ashworth would have worked closely with him, Lingard was a very important part of the England squad in 2018, and obviously he enjoyed his time here before.

He is also exactly the type of player we need, a quick, mobile and technically decent link between the midfield and attack.

But I am astonished about the negativity around him on here, he’d be a fantastic signing for us. I think a reality check is needed about the players we have that are obviously seen through blue and white tints, he is a vast upgrade on our current squad. He is a better, and in some cases much better player than any of the players we have who play in similar positions including Gross, Mooy, March, Ali J and Izquierdo.

All premier league sides outside of the top 7/8 would want him.

He got no goals or assist in 2019. He's not scored in the premier League for 18 months or so. Is playing for a worse team with worse players going to improve this?

Attacking player playing in a top team... got less assists than Dale Stephens. Adam Webster and Lewis Dunk this season.

Washed up, and Gareth Southgate being wrong doesnt change it.

That might have been true before Covid-19 but who would want to pay £80K a week for someone who has averaged 3 league goals per season over his 9-year career? Lewis Dunk has worked hard to become the top wage earner at this club and parachuting in a Man Utd reserve on substantially more is a risky move.

I would have thought that our priorities would be bringing a striker and central midfielder in, rather than another wide attacking midfielder.

Jesse Lingard is the worst "footballer" ever to play for England. Even Michael Ricketts was effective at what he did. Lingard is a nothing "footballer" who has no future in the game.
