Very good interview. He comes across very well indeed. Ecuador must be all over us with him and Caicedo. Both must be in with a shout of POTS if Cucu leaves.

Missed Ecuador game with a groin injury. His injury problems over the last 10 months have been pretty terrible

Indeed, such a shame, what is the longest run of games he has had at any level in the last year before he got injured? Two?

He’s only just turned 20 so it may be his body getting used to the physical demands of the game in England. Plenty of time for him to develop.

He’s lived in England since he was 7 !

Very true, just as he had started to make real progress, become a first team squad regular and had started a few games too.

Fate can be very cruel at times.

Four injuries in one year, three of them related to groin/hamstring issues. Maybe the bloke who fixed Lamptey and Welbeck should be doing a bit of cutting on young Sarmiento.

Apart from the three years when at Benfica (2018-21), which will have been some of the most important years in terms of getting used to the physicality of top level, adult football.

Perhaps. But regardless he’s not even playing enough consecutive games at any level to really be the ‘demands’ of English football.

Two was the first number I thought of too…
Good player, but maybe his body simply cannot stand up to the rigours of top class football

Footballers get injured. Most recover and have long careers. Solly March was 21 when he was out for nearly a year with an ACL and he’s had multiple groin injuries since then and other knocks. He’s still played nearly 250 games for the Albion and is only 28. Give the lad a chance !
