Not altogether what point you are making here, I was just giving an example of someone who had been elected PM and proclaiming a strong ideological position. I dont see why this should necessarily change between when Thatcher was elected and now.

Had Corbyn had the backbone to stick to his position on Europe that he held whilst on the back benches, then I firmly believe that the so called 'red wall' would not have defected and instead we'd have seen a Socialist Labour party elected to Government.

Corby has a lot to answer for in handing this lot the election victory on a plate. I still can't understand why he simply didn't stand up and ask voters to look at his voting record on Europe.

Because the vast majority of Labour Party members, including Corbyn supporters, were/are remainers.

He was clearly not anti-semitic and the smears were cynical, disgusting and a disservice to actual AS

Take just 2 mins to read the below.

I wonder why left wing Jews defend him and right wing Jews slate him? Jews are being expelled from the Labour Party as we speak for sin of criticising Israel.

Read this written by a Jewish Labour org. Or are they the wrong kind of Jews in your eyes? You are flirting with AS yourself.

Your comment on GB news makes me think your political compass has been smashed with a sledge hammer and dropped in the Marian Trench

Anyway will end contribution - it was a complete scam for political ends and Corbyn was vilified because 1) he stood up for those less fortunate including Palestinians 2) Spoke of nationalisation that threatened big business 3) Was critical of Israel - not allowed in UK and US politics - see Bernie Sanders for more evidence

In my union we have only one major boycott. Is it against China? Russia? Yemen? Saudi Arabia? Iran? Iraq? No.....

Yes, you guessed it. We passed a motion to boycott everything to do with Israel: its science, its academic activities, its people.

I could take it a bit seriously, and consider this is playing the ball and not the man. But just Israel? Israel is the only state worth a boycott?

The vote was won, in a union with more than 1000 local members, by a vote of 22 to 5. I was one of the five. Academics, playing student politics. And they have the temerity to lead us into a strike to 'bridge the gender pay gap' when the real problem in academia is the pressure to publish (rubbish research) and the pressure to teach more and more fee-paying students (rubbish diluted cartoon versions of reality).

There are wankers everywhere. You can be a wanker only 10% of the time but it is the self-inflicted wounds that people remember in politics.

Corbyn was vilified because he's unfit to run the country because he lacks judgement.

And at the end of the day, unless you plan a revolution and dictatorship we are at the mercy of the electorate so it doesn't matter if the sun actually shines out of Jeremy's arse if people look at him and say 'no thanks'.

And as I said earlier, Corbyn has gone now so you can praise him all you like, and weep at his demise. He's gone.

Oh, and you accuse me of flirting with antisemitism? You, sir, are a fool sir, or a knave, sir.

Absolutely this: Noticeable that many in the socially conservative Charedi Orthodox Jewish community (around 67,000 about a quarter of theh Jewish population in the UK, also supported Corbyn. They are opposed to the state of Israel on religious grounds and have been attacked by senior labour figures such as Margaret Hodge who have filed a letter of complaint against her to the labour party on grounds of anti semitism.

Nobody cares.

'Jews against Israel' will very certainly be a minority movement among Jews.

Jews accusing a Jew (Hodge) of antisemitism? And you think that's good? The likes of Das Reich will be pissing themselves.

Also, if a quarter of British Jews supported Corbyn (I will do the maths for you) that means that 3/4 opposed him! That's neary 75%, which is almost half. A significant minority, and a significant minority is always bigger than a majority. Some of this will resonate with your perception of mathematics, I'm sure.

So non Zionist secular Jews and Orthodox Jews don't count as Jews with worthy opinions. Whilst the late Rabbi Sachs who supported the most vile racist settler groups in Israel was worthy of opinion. There is no concrete evidence worthy of its name that Berger or Hodge faced anti-Semitism. What they faced was a supporter of the Palestinian right to return and a socialist. Something they both were opposed to. When the Labour establishment were facing the loss of their party to members who thought the party could be used to change the world, they clutched at the only thing that seemed to work. There is plenty of evidence that anti-Semitism was weaponised to divert bad publicity when Israel would use unequal violence repeatedly against Palestinians. I don't believe it was all a Zionist plot to stop Corbyn, but anti-semitism was used as a tool to try and stop a socialist leading the Labour party. Plenty of real anti-Semites and racists were more than happy to see Corbyn stopped as well. Now we have an opposition that is also keen to support the status quo, Scape goat refugees and not condemn Israel when it breaches people's human rights.

I think what also frightens people is blind loyalty to any political leader, it always makes me suspicious of the leader themselves.

Whether that be Thatcher, Corbyn or Trump.

The friend of the enemy of my enemy's friend is a friend indeed.

And you have also summed up with glistening clarity why Corbyn was so popular and won the last general election.
