JW's believe that they are created in the image of God and the way that God intended them to be. therefore if you alter your body in any way you are defying God and denying him as your creator. JW's won't allow transplants, plastic surgery, blood transfusions and some even refuse to take medication.

They also believe that God has limited the number of spaces in heaven to 144,000. and to obtain one of these spaces you must preach to and convert as many people to JW's as possible and when the world end the 144,00 JW's who converted the most will go to heaven. the rest of the world will go to hell.

If you ask them to go away they wil as they have a place in heaven to earn and don't wanna waste time with no chancers.

So what do they do when they know they haven’t reached their magic target knowing they’ll be going to hell, commit suicide?

Way out west
I would rather go to hell, it wouldn't be full of the self-righteous, would be much warmer (due to the close proximity of a furnace) and I might fulfil my dream of getting jiggy with Drew Barrymore as she is bound to go there.

I didn't know that.. Imagine being No 144,000, and looking down at Joe Bloggs, sniffing around, deparate to get a few more "sign up's" to usurp him..

Just send a thunderbolt down and kill him wouldn't you ?

Does the God of Jehova get his clipboard out and verify each one..?

So much to know..!?!

They dont actually belive in hell...

from watchtower........

Hell

They totally deny the existence of the traditional Christian view of Hell. Satan is regarded as having created the concept of Hellfire in order to turn people against God. They believe that hell is the "common grave of mankind" where people go when they die. They are not conscious there. Unbelievers simply cease to exist at death. Believers remain in death until the resurrection.

A few others.........

Nationalism

Jehovah’s Witnesses are not allowed to salute the flag of any nation, recite the pledge of allegiance, stand for or sing the national anthem, run for public office, vote, or serve in the armed forces.

Holidays

Jehovah’s Witnesses are not allowed to celebrate Christmas, birthdays, Easter, Thanksgiving, or any other holidays, claiming they all have pagan roots.

Associates

Jehovah’s Witnesses are not allowed to associate with non-Witnesses including family. Exceptions are made if the non-Witness family member is living in the same household.

144,000

The Heavenly Kingdom took effect in 1914 with the invisible enthronement of Christ as King. A little flock or Anointed Class of about 135,300 people currently occupies it. All were selected after Christ's ascension into heaven at Pentecost (33 AD) and during subsequent centuries. The selection of the full complement of 144,000 was completed in 1935. Some 8,700 are still living on earth. They will spend eternity as spirit creatures in heaven with God and Christ and will rule over the other Jehovah’s Witnesses who remain on earth. Those spending eternity on earth are what Jehovah’s Witnesses call the Great Crowd or Other Sheep.

I feel sorry for JW children. They don't really get a choice in the matter do they.

Why are we allowed to talk about Jehovah witness etc but as soon as a thread about Islam, Muslims then it’s closed.

We have Muslim preachers trying to convert non Muslims, so why isn’t this thread closed?

Or is ok to talk about any other religion apart from Islam?

Never got the mob that used to preach outside the Midlands Bank(?) nr West Worthing crossing on Saturdays. All the blokes were big check-shirted bruisers and the girls all had sort of headscarves. I went to school with a couple of MacIntyres who were members of that sect. Think they own big farmland on the Littlehampton Road nr Angmering/Goring.

I usually tell the JWs that I'm CoE and quite happy with that. Their literature has always been a little fanciful too. They always seemed big on lambs lying down alongside lions.

Don't mind 'em. Do get shot of them fairly politely. I shall continue to be polite to unexpected callers until The Plymouth Bretheren start door to door work. They will get told to piss off bluntly.

Invite the JW in, then part way through their spiel, excuse yourself and begin to make a series of increasingly reprehensible fake phone calls. (booky, order for pornography, drug deal, obscene call,Villa tickets) and if they are STILL there, a tearful confession to the police for the murder of the last Witnesses who visited you.

DQ - Thats my stance too - I work on the supposition that Catholics are less likely to 'turn' than say CoE, so they give up pretty quick.

Pretty much all of that is absolute bollocks.

Yes they refuse blood transfusions but they can have plastic surgery if they want, why wouldn't they - nothing in the bible says that you cant have plastic surgery, it does however elude to not having blood transfusions.

About the 144,000 or "The Annointed" as they call them. Yes they believe only these will go to heaven, the rest of the of people that have led their lives in a way that god approves will live forever on earth, and the ones that haven't.....they cease to exist.

It really annoys me sometimes....if you don't know anything about a religion then don't go on about it, an opinion from someone who knows nothing is not even worth listening to.

They do at 16, just the same as everything else really. Generally while your deemed to be a child you follow your parents rules.

Also on the subject of knocking on doors, they do have a "Do Not Call" list and if you ask for them not to knock again then they wont for at least 5 years (the reason it's only 5 years is that you could have moved by then and somebody wanting them to call could be living there. If though you just say "I'm not interested" then they probably will call again.
