I find it strange that an obviously intelligent man with as much money as you could spend on anything, could not restrain himself from sexual urges involving minors. In fact it destroyed his life when the victims only needed to be a few years older to be legal.

I think in a way that’s almost the point. They see it as the ultimate show of power, to do things like that believing themselves to be safe in the knowledge they will never face repercussions.

No, it doesn't , but I am just interested, as it seems that victims of certain types of crime have suddenly become survivors, especially in the case of alleged sexual abuse and exploitation.......hence my question here with the Epstein case.
Perhaps I should have started a whole new thread to avoid any sensibilities, but actually there is some discussion about this in the media from victims of abuse who object to being called survivors.

My understanding is that it is about framing? Not sure that's the right term.

A victim is passive. They are defined by the actions of another, they are victims because of an abuser or a rapist. Thus the perpetrator hangs over them, defining them long after the crime.

A survivor is active, they have gone through something and come out the other side and are refusing to be defined by the person who assaulted them. The perpetrator becomes something from their past, something that no longer hangs over them.

I`m not meaning to defend Epstein...but you are saying because he has been found guilty of other sex offences he`s guilty of this one ??

Innocent till proven guilty but why do you think he was hanging out with this teenage girl and flying her round the world?

FBI studies two broken cameras outside cell where Epstein died: source

(Reuters) - Two cameras that malfunctioned outside the jail cell where financier Jeffrey Epstein died as he awaited trial on sex-trafficking charges have been sent to an FBI crime lab for examination, a law enforcement source told Reuters.

Epstein’s lawyers Reid Weingarten and Martin Weinberg told U.S. District Judge Richard Berman in Manhattan on Tuesday they had doubts about the New York City chief medical examiner’s conclusion that their client killed himself.

The two cameras were within view of the Manhattan jail cell where he was found dead on Aug. 10. A source earlier told Reuters two jail guards failed to follow a procedure overnight to make separate checks on all prisoners every 30 minutes.

He had been taken off suicide watch prior to his death.

The cameras were sent to Quantico, Virginia, site of a major FBI crime lab where agents and forensic scientists analyze evidence.

The Washington Post reported on Monday that at least one camera in the hallway outside Epstein’s cell had footage that was unusable. The newspaper said there was other usable footage captured in the area.

I really don't think they are going to find anything wrong with them, do you ? As Lloyd Grossman would say " lets have a look at the clues... " Ex powerful man implicated in sex scandal involving lots of still powerful men...……. about to spill the beans...…... who already had one recent " suicide" attempt while in a secure prison...… guards not checking on him as ordered...… now malfunctioning cameras outside the cell. This could be a film script but sadly it's real. He has been killed but nothing will be proved.

Why are people 'survivors' rather than 'victims', these days?
Just asking!

Because they've 'survived' what is probably a harrowing ordeal for them?

In my mind they are both: victims at the time and survivors afterwards.

I wonder if they checked his underpants to make sure they were killing the correct man who knew too much.

Yeah. Like James Alefantis.

But the world will never accept what it means for the bigger picture. Most people cant deal with the cognitive dissonance it means to realise that their rulers have very dark secrets, and goes straight into denial.
