Unfortunately that is Jason Steele all over. I am in a Whatsapp group with some England fans I go to games with, 1 is Sunderland, 1 is Blackburn and both were laughing when we signed Jason Steele and came with the warning that he always has some howlers in him... Last night pretty much backed up what they said - has some good attributes but will let you down

Ideal benchwarmer then. Rarely plays matches so never match sharp, earns a good living for himself without rattling the bars for a game, supports the team and trains well as part of the group. Does the job well enough when called upon and follows instructions to a T. And against Newport, he didn't let us down. He took us through to the next round of the FA CUP with the best succession of penalty saves I have ever seen and will remember for the rest of my days.

Thunder Bolt

Silly old bat
Or the absolute clanger in the first half where Dunk saved his bacon.

Also the fourth penalty he was miles off his line, should have been retaken so he got very lucky there

On another thread, somebody posted four stills which showed he had one foot/heel touching the line every time.

Do you think Potter and players like Webster, Dunk etc, appreciated the extra 30 minutes on that pitch, 60 hours before Man City because of a massive clanger, or are greatful for his penalty heroics. Possibly a bit of both I guess but still we did not need extra time with that journey back on a Sunday night, before Man City on Wednesday

Same could be said about the misses in front of goal that should have put the game to bed. Keeper makes one error late on, yet dismal shooting the other end is a common failure.

All of that is irrelevant to your original post and simply changing the subject. However I think it's safe to assume that Potter and the players, especially Webster with his unfortunate part in the own goal, and Dunk, who was lucky to get away with his own clanger and unfortunate to have his attempts on goal saved by an inspired keeper, will have appreciated the extra 30 minutes to finish the job and get the lift any Cup win brings. Clearly the club appreciated it too when they announced Steele's new deal.

I read somewhere that before Sunday he'd saved four penalties in his entire career (250+ games, I think)....then he saved 4 in the space of a few minutes. I actually thought they were all very decent saves.

I love Sanchez, but I almost want Steele to keep the shirt for a bit now. Loved the passion he showed when he thumped the badge. Great to see.

Let's face it, we all make mistakes, just not in full view of many bitching fans who like to call every clanger out.

Yes, he made an absolute clanger with seconds to go in the match, and he looked rusty (who wouldn't when you get no game time), but as someone mentioned , it was a memorable and heroic end to what was a dullish game up until 5 minutes from full time, well done Jason for making it memorable. :clap2::clap2:
