has increased our profile enormously.

Hate to say it but people in the US know Arsenal, Man City, Man United, Liverpool and some know Everton but nobody really knows Brighton except far-en-nerrs.

The Avenue then Maloncho
Still remember back in the day when sponsorship in your match programme was. Some random eaterie in East Street, Hove dog track, some Solicitors EST 1797.
Was it Littlehampton Welding that advertised proudly as the manufacturer of the Goldstone fencing while using a photo of said death trap in the background?

I've booked a holiday in Blighty end of July to start of August. Fate dictates this is when my team will actually be in sodding Japan instead. Maybe I can wave out the window of the plane as we fly by each other.

Nonsense. It could be argued that these games in the states have cost us league placings and £££ as we are battered.
I don’t see the connection - players travel long distance for international duty during the EPL season - it’s no different really. It is also I imagine a welcome summer working holiday for the lads after spending the rest of the year training in ‘sunny’ Lancing.

We are planning to go to Japan because we were invited - the amount of revenue Mitoma has brought into the club in merchandising is crazy - he has a massive following out there so for the Club it could be an opportunity to get some sponsorship too but nonetheless excellent PR - and I’m sure they will be travelling and staying in comfort. It also helps to open up a Japanese pool of new young talent by inspiring their youth players to dream of following in Mitoma’s footsteps to Brighton.

For Mitoma to be playing in July , he must be near to light training soon.
The contract will surely include the fact he plays both games , so they must be 100% confident he will be fit.

Just hope Nike gets the new kit delivered early so we can take advantage of the demand for shirts while playing over there
The orphanages in downtown Manila, Hanoi and Phnom Penh have already been put on standby, the kids sitting poised by sewing machines ready to commence their 14 hour shifts so that all the sad, overweight middle-aged losers from Hassocks to Portslade and Rottingdean to Billingshurst can get their nouveau stripes on time.

Just far enough away from LDC
US trip was a disaster conditioning and injury wise, Why not go back to basics?
But given we are on our uppers and so far behind Bournemouth and brentford with our spending potential we clearly need to do anything for money

I mean, it's only a short jump to us playing Dorking Wanderers for the YouTube hits

I am not a fan of these long distance PR trips during an already too short close season. I can’t prove that the American trip took a lot out of the players but I suspect it did .
Still of the professionals in charge believe it is for the good of the club, then we must accept that.

You do realise they will be flying in comfort and not having to row there don't you ?

When you consider there is 38 million in Tokyo alone and we have Japan's most famous player how many shirts could we sell there? It could certainly match an amount that would negate considering a large transfer fee as new converted supporters continue to buy merchantise throughout the season. Plus as PB said Amex and Nike were both keen. Personally I loved visiting Japan and would certainly consider going back even for friendlies. It is not just about the football and if the match means anything. I would suggest a great experience for both the club and supporters.

Kit manufacturers take the majority of profit from kit sales. Unless every person in Japan buys 20 kits each it’s not going to make a difference to transfers.

Way out West
The main problem with Japan in July is the humidity (and heat). It’s a long way to go, and there’ll be the jet lag to factor in - but I imagine the whole trip will be a week long, max, with plenty of recovery time before the big home friendly against some mid-table Spanish team whose name bears little resemblance to where they’re from.
Also, I very much doubt the likes of Gross and Undav would go to Japan (assuming they’re in the Germany squad, and will be with us next season).
