The kind of player we sign in the January window is pretty clear, this is the list of players we've spent money on in January.

23/24 - Mazilu
22/23 - Buonanotte, Ayari
21/22 - Kozlowski, Undav
20/21 - Caicedo
19/20 - Lamptey
18/19 - MacAllister, Mlakar, Baluta

The last big-money-straight-to-the-first-team-january-signing was Locadia in 17/18

Perhaps more interesting are the loan recalls we've done in January, of players getting their first call into the first team squad, which include MacAllister, Moder, Caicedo and Tau. Could this year see Kozlowski get a call?

Kozlowski chose another season in the Netherlands over a loan to the overly physical Championship. They don't all work out.

Jan 1st. I'd recall Moran, Koslowski, Turns and Sarmiento if the contracts we've agreed allow. I'd play them all in the FA Cup. If we're still struggling for numbers at the end of Jan and Afcon, recall Sima as well

And then, and i'm not sure if anybody has mentioned this on here, we could get some full back cover.

Given all the injuries, I wonder if we might look at a loan or two instead. Don't want lots of panic buy players clogging up pathways when everyone comes back to fitness, and buy prices are prohibitive in January.

We might have a lot of loanees out that we could potentially recall but the ones who are arguably ready for the PL aren't really in positions of urgency (Undav, Moran, Rushworth, maybe Sima).

Full backs and a physical covering defensive midfielder are the highest priority. Gilmour and Baleba will make a top quality pair... in a couple of seasons time.

The club haven’t got much wrong in recent years but the summer transfer business has left us short of numbers. Only cheaper replacements for players who left were brought in when we clearly needed extra players to cope with the additional demands of this season.

I know they don’t like doing business in January but if they want to build on the recent success then a few first team ready signings are needed.

PBOBE always says that we should get replacements in before selling and we were left short when we lost that pair. not signing a full backs was a massive risk and we are paying the price now.

We've seen glimpses from Baleba, Dahoud, Igor. Milner looks way off the level of our other players.

The new keeper looks to have huge potential.

IMO our recruitment hasn’t been as good since Ashworth left. Likewise since Jewell took over from Winstanley the South American wonderkid signings appear to have dried up a bit.

Problem now is we are too over the radar. As soon as we look at a player the agent will be out with a megaphone proclaiming it. In addition we will be quoted silly money and we know bloom won't overpay. We are a bit stuck.

Lamptey easily good enough, as above. Nobody will buy him Injured.

Lallana is an exquisite player, he's brilliant. Whatever fleeting appearances we get out of him are worth it. Plus his experience and leadership, hes a model pro. A man we definitely should want to keep at the club beyond his playing days.

I don't think our summer business was that awful at all, we were always going to struggle to replace Mac Allister and Caicedo with players anywhere near their level. One is a world cup winner and one is in the top 5 players in his position in the world. We can't just replace players like that, we have to hope we find the raw talent that can develop into players that can get near that level.

Igor and Bart look like they belong in the squad, Igor has certainly improved as hes got more game time, he was great when he came on for Dunk in the Ajax game. Baleba looks very raw but we can see what qualities the club brought him for, lets remember Bissouma didn't set the world alight when he first arrived. Milner is probably the only senior summer signing I've been disappointed by so far.

We certainly could have done with a body or two more at full back but we are in the middle of the worse injury crisis we've had since getting to the Premier League and possibly one of the worse we've ever had. We are still sat in 8th place in the Premier League and with a very good chance of getting out of our Europa League group, there is a lot to be positive about and competing in the top 10 of the Premier League for a third season in a row is not exactly something to be down about.

I'd suggest we go relatively 'all out' for Kyle Walker Peters. Can play both sides. Great experience. Would be a very good addition not just in the short term.

You could argue that Gilmour was a replacement brought in before selling. Our CM is certainly not bad, it's not just at good as it was. But it was never going to be, those were two of the best in the world at that position. We were lucky to have had them.

I think our success has been a double edged sword.

Other clubs are now more willing to take the same risks seeing how it has paid off for us. These clubs pay more in wages than us, which is often enough to convince young players away from us and towards them.

Selling clubs see the success we have had and are asking for more money, meaning the bargains are harder to find. Big sell on fees also more likely, meaning the club has to consider risk/reward bit more thoroughly.

Were also looking at higher profile youngsters than before (eg Kuddus) as these are more likely to be match ready and push us forward to the next level. It's harder to sign these players within our wage structure and given their top-level ambitions.

We aren't under the radar anymore.

Hmm, we've lost Enciso, welbeck, March, and lallana can't last more than half a match. I'd have Undav back in a heartbeat. In the last month of last season he was our best player and probably would have stayed if we hadn't signed Pedro
