Yes, good points about Lallana and Welbeck. Hope we can strike a balance between pursuit of profit and, at times, getting in players that can have an immediate impact when the circumstances are right. The fee does seem steep but if you get 5 years out of him and he’s superb, could be money well spent. Could be Colin Hawkins II though, for all I know about him. Very happy to trust Uncle Tony will get the right price or move on.
If RDZ says he's good...then I'm pretty sure he is!

I think in between all the wonderkids we sign (which is a great policy for me) we do need the odd ready made player like this one. Especially as we are unlikely to be able to sign Colwill. Make it happen Tony!
As @Bozza has said - we do sign players of that ilk - Cucurella, Estupinan, Mwepu - but they tend to be younger / early 20s. Long time since we’ve signed a 27/28+ year old player with a fee. Glenn Murray from Bournemouth ?

Why not? If he has a blinding 12-24 months here then it’s not beyond the realm to think Chelsea et el would pay £40m for a 28/29 yo.
It would worry me a lot if EVERY transfer had to be about sell on value though. I’d start to question why we’re bothering.
It's not that he wouldn't be a decent addition but going by our past history we rarely spend anything over £20m.

Yes, there will be a first time but I agree with the other comment that I would be surprised if we spent so much ourselves on 1 player. They well prove me wrong though.

I read a scouting report on this fella that suggested he was not that tall, good in the air or physical. No idea how good or accurate this one report was.

If you were to ask me, what we need to improve the team mid-season, I would be looking for another right back. This is based purely on what I have seen, with no one player nailing down this position as their own.

However like everyone else, I have only seen what RDZ is trying to do to improve the players he has got. I like the idea of him bringing in players he personally wants, as sometimes this can completely change the dynamics of the team.

I'm aware we signed these players, it's just as you even say yourself, not players of his age. If De Zerbi thinks he's up to it then that's good enough for me, plus left sided CBs to tend to carry a premium.

The price quoted is not ridiculous for an established international with Champions league experience. I think this would be a good signing.

It’ll be interesting to see how it pans out. If we decide not to move for him because of price what RDZ will do.

Who does TB trust - ‘the model / data’ or his coach?

I don’t see the issue with blending experience with potential, shirely they compliment each other?
Fair point - it’s just his age I imagine. No resale value which goes massively against the TB model

.......not forgetting that in this day and age - and in the crazy world of PL football - £20M is only a bit of loose change.

It's starting to feel to me that the only way we'll get Colwill is by letting Caicedo go to Chelsea - and that is not a deal I'd favour - so maybe this is a good 'Plan B'? It may br something RDZ wants, but I'm sure the club will still do its own research too and won't just buy willy-nilly on any one person's say-so.

Take the point. Having a couple of experienced players who help immediate progression on the pitch I guess still has a value for the club.

I had started wondering how many seasons for example Dunk has left before he starts looking over his shoulder before he plays a phased role.

Actually, I think some of us are making this guy older than he is - me included. He’s 26. Still young enough to develop further as a CB.

Age and also how much room he has still to develop.

Data is more than likely pointing us towards Piero Hincapié, Evan Ndicka, Calvin Bassey and Max Kilman.

Will be interesting to see the outcome. Need to back the manager with his picks sometimes, especially when the manager knows the player.

I imagine it would be a bit easier if it wasn’t our club record transfer fee…

Lots of social media noise about us being close to singing the next Evan Ferguson; another Irish striker youngster named O’Mahony. He’s apparently had a trial and is good to go with the U21s.
