The only slight point worth noting is that when Mlakar was sent out on loan, we had Andone and Locadia in the squad - and 5 strikers to pick from.

Now we are down to 3 strikers - unless we recruit in January.
Don't think that's relevant at all in Mlakar's case. If he's not considered ready to play in The Championship he's not ready to be a 4th. striker in the PL, regardless of how many strikers we may or may not have.
Clearly the loan to QPR is doing no good for him or the Albion, so recall him in January and loan him out somewhere better.

Zero minutes vs Forest tonight.

He'd be better off in our U23s.

Not even in the 18 today.

The loan is doing him no good.

Haul him back on January 1st.

Maybe QPR were never the right club.

Nakhi Wells and Jordan Hugill in front of him meant that it wasn’t going to be easy to get the game time he needed to develop

The Ben White route is to me a good idea. Take a lower level loan initially to get experience of senior football and get yourself noticed, then a final stop off in the Championship. Then we're well placed to make a decision about whether to sell or bring into the first team squad

At least his recent injury has cleared up.

Our U23s play at a higher level than QPR U23, so he might as well come back on Jan 1st.

Doesn't always work out. Tomori could barely get a game during a half season loan to us in the championship, now he's a Chelsea regular and in the England squad

Yes, you have to look at the age of the player going out on loan. I remember Chris Wood's spell with us, aged about 19. A few flashes but far from a fixture in the side and no clamour for his signature.

Also some players develop much later, some fit into, or don't, a particular style

You can't draw simplistic conclusions from loaning young players

Yeah but that's because he was our weakest link, who was no better than Sam Baldock.
