Why sell him - especially for £4m - decent player and not like we need money at present, we haven't exactly broken the bank yet with the funds from the Premier league

At last! Ive been waiting for someone to say this.

For those of you thinking an extra 4m towards player x, the reason we are not paying what clubs are asking is either we dont think the player is value at that price or just plain old negotiation. £4m for Murphy wont make any difference to getting these players in.

Having said that IF we buy players that are considerably better than what we have and the likes of Jamie Murphy are not going to make the 25, then we may consider offers for them. IMHO.

Not sure what we would get from £4m fee with sell on due to Sheff Utd.
Reading are after Fulham's Aluko so he would replace.

Wouldn't necessarily agree with that. No doubt TB/PB have set a player budget for the year. Anyone we sell adds to the budget and may mean we might go after other targets further down the list.

Think in fairness we have substantial funds now, and we are realising that prices have rocketed in line with PL money..just need to get in and start spending the cash... Like what's been already said, can't really see 4 mill coming in asking huge difference to us... It would however start weeding out players deemed unfit for squad of 25... Ince, Norwood, Towell etc out on loan too...

FRUIT OF THE BLOOM
Murphy is one I would defo keep unless a stupid offer comes in. He's more suited to the Premier League than a lot of our players.

I think i said he was probably worth 5 million earlier in the thread, but now thinking about it i would want more, nearer 7 before i would consider selling.

PS: Reports *anywhere* saying there's been a bid for a player nearly always doesn't mean these things

- its true (eg: Randomtransferaccountlive says bids for player)
- he's for sale (eg Jamie Murphy)
- he's for sale at the price quoted and club will accept first offer going (eg: £4m )
- he's not in clubs plans for the season (even if club dismiss it as nonsense)

obviously some on here will be 100% convinced otherwise. :)

Seems daft to sell a player without signing the replacement first. Can't see this happening, especially as we are struggling to land our targets at the moment.

It could also mean:

The story is a lie (Chinese Whispers are started by countless bloggers and media outlets across Europe, as click bait).
Or
Murphy's side are angling for an Albion contract commensurate with their PL budget, and have started this.
Or
A interested potential buying club is unsettling the player.
