think hughton may disagree

key part of the side on that massive unbeaten run,

Could be argued if hadn't been injured would of gone up.

Conjecture
It could be argued, but whoever argued would be wrong.
I completely agree that we need someone better than Baldock, that does stick a plenty in the onion bag - I'm just saying, that ain't Wilson.

Strikers operate in pairs. Did Mellor score as many as Wardy? Would Wardy have scored as many as he did without Mellor?

It's far too simplistic to say a striker's primary job is to score goals.
I disagree. And BTW Mellor scored a lot more than Sam B. The word primary is crucial here.

If a strikers primary task is not to score goals, then I have been missing something all these years. Might explain why I saw Baldock driving a P&R bus last season.
If he wasn't wearing number 9, I might be a bit more forgiving. A striker he ain't.!

Baldock had a 20% chance of scoring in 90 minutes compared to Wilson's 30%. cf. Vokes (second striker) had 40%.

I thought Baldock was better playing wider (where we have a surfeit of wingers) and I would give him a chance to see if he can get his speed up and shoot on target. I think there is more chance of Manu learning the offside rule, although sometimes the ref was wrong.

Second striker is rather an important position, but I think Knockaert or Lualua or Manu could play there* and all are better than Wilson and Baldock. Second striker is rather an important position in 4-4-1-1, but I cant see we Murray and Hemed together won't work if we want two up front in a 4-4-2 (well I can see neither is great on the pace stakes). (*with reservations, Lualua is reluctant to run into space, Knockaert might be better elsewhere, and Manu has got the pace but we haven't seen anything else).

Signings 12 and 21, would hope to be a left-sided defender and one other?

NO, Knockaert, Lua Lua and Manu, are most assuredly NOT better strikers than Baldock or Wilson. End of debate.

I may of mentioned in the past that you could bore for Britain.
So I thought I would reconfirm it:moo:

Reports are that Mourinho doesn't fancy Fosu-Mensah, and is planning on releasing him. I do find this highly unlikely but he'd be great, especially as he can play anywhere across defence.

I really hope we do get him back. If we went into the season with him and Duffy and don't lose any first teamers I will be very pleased and think we will have a great chance of automatic promotion.

I think generally last season would have done him good.

I also hope he comes back.

Seems opinion is very divided on him.

Like some others have said, I would hate for him to be loaned out to someone else in the Championship and score 20+ as we all know he can finish. Meanwhile, like a broken record, everyone on here is still talking about signing a 'proven' 20+ a season striker come January. I still maintain that he's a good option for us, he's fast, can run with the ball and can definitely finish.

Not a big fan of loans but I wouldn't be too upset if he were to return to complete the 4.
