Brighton linked with loan bid for Newcastle United starlet
IMPRESSIVE ... James Tavernier has looked sharp on his return from Sheffield Wednesday.

JAMES Tavernier’s set for another loan away from Newcastle United – this time in the Championship.

The defender returned to Tyneside last week after a successful spell at League One club Sheffield Wednesday.

Gary Megson wanted to keep Tavernier at the club, but Newcastle refused to extend his loan because he had been playing on the wing, and not at right back.

However, Tavernier – who also spent three months on loan at Carlisle United earlier in the season – is likely to be farmed out again by manager Alan Pardew, who saw the benefits of his time at Hillsborough first-hand last week when he rejoined his United team-mates in training.

Brighton and Hove Albion are understood to be among the second-tier clubs considering a move for the 20-year-old, who impressed across the Tyne at non-league Gateshead last season.

“He’s been brilliant, absolutely brilliant,” Pardew told the Gazette.

“That loan period has done him the world of good. He’s come back, and the highest compliment I can make is that he’s looked like Danny Simpson in training.

“He’s come back at that level, so fair play to him.

“With Santon, Ryan, Danny and Fergie, we’re blessed with full-backs. We’ve now got Tav, so I’ll consider sending him out again.

“I think he’ll go to the Championship this time, and do well.”

Not heard of him to be honest

Sounds promising but I think we need to be looking at left backs not right backs.

Yeah I was surprised when I saw he was a right back. Don't know if Poyet still has doubts about Calderon at this level?

He was on loan at Gateshead last season and looked a level above that league. This season he's been on loan at Sheff Wed and Carlisle and both clubs have praised him, especially Carlisle whose manager was raving about him.

Would be a decent loan signing for you lot, IMO.

I think Reyes would be perfectly capable on the left watching him.

I'd be delighted to get him, seems Reyes might of been a loan to buy or flat out buy option and Gus can't afford it?

I think we have made an offer and I don't believe the fee is an issue but while Baggies have something of an injury crisis Jara is a starter and they are holding back on allowing it to progress. For sure he would need to take a pay cut to come to us but it seems that he is unlikely to feature with WBA once everyone is back and his contract (I think) ends in 2013. He might be tempted here for, say, a three year contract but at very best it seems nothing is going to happen before the last few days of the window.

Why is Pardew suddenly apperaring to help us as he hasnt in the past. Could this be the influence of Gus and his methods or even the new man from Southampton was he with them when Pardew was manager.
