I remember us after Dave Kitson of Cambridge and Bozza asking why I didn't rate him. I knew then that a stopped clock is right twice a day.

Our other 2 experienced pro's are medically challenged shall we say. Milner AFAIK hasn't had the same long term issues.

Could be a great signing if it's not breaking the bank to help with another very experienced head. And as others have said, he's been pretty much a model pro and at 37, still got it.

“I get the fans”, “I get the club”. Endearing him to Toffees and Chavs supporters who saw/see him as part of their circle-the-wagons fight against a mocking football world.

His private school education giving him an edge with pre-Agincourt inspiration.

Then both clubs lost football matches on repeat.

I think it's part of a weird phase that clubs tend to glide through wherein you go for someone who "feels good" rather than someone who "is good". A warm fuzzy feeling goes a long way, but talent goes further as Everton have found out to their cost

James Milner is a top professional and athlete. Despite his age, he’s still got a couple years of bit-part playing left in him. If he wants it, he would definitely get it here.

I find this an odd one. Milner has spent his entire career up North, and has probably never even needed to move house. Why head south now, for what will probably be a one year deal?

I was sure I recalled Milner playing for Swindon against us at Withdean. A quick fact check and yes he did in 2003 (very unusual for me to remember this). He was only on loan for a month though - carry on.

And the Welbeck myth continues. We signed Danny in 2020 aged 29. He had an operation at the end of the 20-21 season that ruled him out for the end of that season even though he had made 24 appearances and it solved a longstanding Hamstring problem that he had. He appeared 27 times last season and has appeared 31 times this season already despite Ferguson being preferred starter a few times. He doesn't have a fitness problem and is still only 32 years old and in his prime.

Lallana has had fitness problems but when fit, is probably still our first pick in the AM role, something Milner will not be in any role.

When we signed Welbeck and Lallana in 2020 when they were 29 and 31 respectively. Milner is 37, a professional northerner and has already said he would like to finish his career at his boyhood club, dirty. I really can't see this happening

Now watch us go and sign him in the next week

Hang on a minute. We're talking about dinosaurs here. Think of the kudos Milner would get, walking in the footsteps of Sam Allardyce.

If we make Europe we're going too need both a bigger squad with more depth and experience. Milner gives both.

And lastly there's a lot of young MF kids at the club who will benefit from both Lallana and Milner.

With the load of extra games a europa league spot may bring, plus for the experience, Milner would be an excellent squad addition for a season.

Two words: Adam. Lallana. Fairly clear AL is absolutely smitten with the club, if he's saying JM would be an asset, and he'd obviously be asked, then it's a yes from me.
Even if it's just from a training/mentality/mentor point of view.

I would think if we've identified him as a player we want our reason to get it done earlier is simply to beat others to it. Burnley are apparently very interested. & you might think Milner could just wait until the summer to see what his options are, but I shouldnt think there's many better clubs than us that will go in for him, so he might be wanting to also get the deal done early while its there on the table for fear we could move onto other options...

He is out of contract so can sign a deal with whoever he wants at this stage. Liverpool have probably said that they will not offer him a new deal.

It is clear from all the rumours we are trying to get any transfer business done at the start of the window.
