Could you gentlemen reword your letters slightly and send a copy to the Gay Times, PCC and Stonewall...think they might find the tone and content interesting.

That's certainly on the cards next if I don't get a prompt response. The PCC anyway as I think it's only fair to give the newspaper a chance to retract and apologise.

I'll forward to Stonewall as I know they take a very very dim view of this kind of thing.

EDIT - It may not be on the website. It was inside back cover in the printed edition.

Good...it would be sad if a glorious night for the Albion had the shine taken off it by some gratuitous and unnecessary homophobic abuse in some second rate rag.

Crap article and crap response. I have no problem with gay boys (providing their not caught holding hands by opposing fans - have any ever been), but to rise to the bait by suggesting Brighton might have gay players and a high percentage of gay fans is playing into his hands, do we even have that many gay fans? The fact is that the **** who wrote that article is taking the piss out of everyone who was at Withdean on wednesday and he deserves a f***ing good kicking not reasoned debate.

but if I were to just type a load of expletives and email them then they'd ignore it. This way, the bastard is gonna have to make a grovelling apology which is gonna be amusing for me and embarrassing for him.

Also, he's gonna think twice about mentioning the Albion again in any negative connotation PLUS he's forever going to be known as a homophobe. Oh, the embarrassment when he goes to those dinner parties in Hampstead. "No, really. I was being ironic. I'm not really a gay-basher. I've even got a Pet Shop Boys CD etc etc".

Nah...revenge is a dish best served cold.

You are of course right. People have to careful as to the way that you respond to an article like this. Why play into there hands by rising to the bait?
Possibly if there is enough adverse publicity about the article then the journo would be sacked? But I doubt it.
He may also use the issue to his advantage, because if there is alot of publicity, he might try to make out he is a "controversial" journo?

Buzzer has the right approach. The over option is of course that posters do nothing?
What hacked (no pun intended) me most off about the article is that it was a cheap shot at all of us at Withdean that night.

Stonewall is the one. Tatchell showing up at his office (Wapping?). Then he won't do it again.

Ring the police and formally complain. He has clearly broken the law for a start. WTF was the editor thinking of letting that go to print.

I think the twat should be made to make his full apology in front of the South Stand at our next home game.

Good call! Then we can all give the scumbag a good shoeing when he walks to his car

I don't think we are playing into their hands or rising to the bait, merely registering disgust about what they have printed, this is 2008 not 1908...that is where his opinion belongs.

If we do nothing then it suggests that we tolerate views like that, I am glad that I live in a country where there is freedom of the press, but occasionally am saddened that they abuse that privelage.

Its postal address is Pennington Street, which is barely a minute's walk from Cable Street, where Moseley's Blackshirts were turned back by the East Enders in 1936.

High up on the South Downs.
Dear Mr Gill

London is a boring city full of back slapping tossers like you who pretend to be macho. LA, New York and Sydney are the English speaking cities that are worth being in. Wank yourself stupid over the prospect of the London Olympics whilst I enjoy the sea air in the company of your many boyfriends.
Up the Albion and Stick it up your Arsenal!

Best off going straight to the Press Complaints Commission. Rather than them just printing a watered-down version of any letter you send and getting off the hook, a judgement against them would make them twice in future.

The code of conduct states:

Discrimination

i) The press must avoid prejudicial or pejorative reference to an individual's race, colour, religion, gender, sexual orientation or to any physical or mental illness or disability.

ii) Details of an individual's race, colour, religion, sexual orientation, physical or mental illness or disability must be avoided unless genuinely relevant to the story.
