I think the days of top footballers continuing to play because they needed to and needed the money have gone. Beattie must have earnt a good few bob so shouldnt need to grab a living at a div 1 club, plus if he did need the cash, he could probably persuade a championship club to pay him much more, than us.

If he wanted to leave, or settle down somewhere, he could pretty much choose any championship club who wanted him over us. The other thing is, as much as I clearly disagree with the idea he would drop 2 divisions, I dont think Bloom would plump for him. As i said, he must be on 25k possibly even 30k a week, (Strugglers Stoke press Blades to seal £4m James Beattie deal | Mail Online) article stating how he was on 20k + at Sheffield United alone.
He'd be after AT VERY LEAST 10k a week, and I'm not sure Poyet would want someone walking in on more than double anyone elses wages, would hardly go down well with the other players me thinks.

If this happens, ill buy everyone on this thread a season ticket for falmer.

But haven't you just contradicted yourself? He doesn't want the money... He's bound to go somewhere with more money...

Surely it's possible that he or someone similar would, having earned their dosh, just be happy playing regular footy?

Surely he would just retire or seek a player managers job if he wanted to play. I am sure that many clubs like Oldham have done with Paul Dickov, would look at him as player manager.

Thought I'd add my name to this thread after reading Foolg's post! Not going to happen though!

This is what I love about "silly seasons".

2+ page threads on Kevin Phillips, Darius Vassell, Jan Venegoor of Hesselink and now James Beattie.

Who next? Yakubu is out of favour at Everton...

It never fails to amaze me how deluded some of our fans are, we are playing in third tier of english football there is no way we can afford to pay anywhere near what he would want.
Beattie would score for fun at this level

Even if this wasn't a load of cobblers, I don't think I'd want him anyway, I've always thought he is a bit of a twat to be honest.
