Only just signed on to Twitter a few weeks back and still feeling my way. From what I have seen there is a chance to get realtime information out to the mainstream but sadly, also a lot of anonymous idiots completely fudging it up.

What possessed you? We need less social media in our lives, not more Veg Box! Burn all your devices and go for a gentle country stroll instead, your mental health will thank you, and on your death bed you’ll certainly not regret not having spent more time on social media.

Great to see that he has been able to come out. Now I hope he can just get back to playing football. Hopefully we can move to a place where your sexuality or race doesn’t make a difference. Everton reminded us at the weekend that this still isn’t the case.

I think several of Womens Cricket and football teams are gay This is completely irrelevant to the teams and no mention is ever made of it. Not much will change until time men also cant just get on with there lives without feeling they have to make big announcements to media

I think it is brilliant what the lad has done

One thing I really hope though is that he turns out to be absolutely brilliant striker and when he gets homophobic abuse he shuts everyone up with a goal against the team of opposition fans abusing him

It's wonderful this lad has been brave enough to come out.

I don't think much will change in the short term. Especially not in a year where the showpiece tournament of world football is being held in a country that's, shall we say, not known for being inclusive towards LGBTQ+ individuals.

unfortunately he will get abuse from his own clubs fans every time he misses a shot. Whilst mostly positive there are a fair few replies on Blackpool twitter indicating not all support him. There are messages from so called fans who say they are no longer going to go to matches and support the club because of this. Quite a few written from abroad condemning him and the club, some vile messages

For those who don't understand why this is a big thing, go take a look at the Blackpool twitter stream, and listen to his interviews about having to lie to eveyrone to "fit in". Listen to the Josh Cavallo interviews as well.

Good luck to the young man, its an incredibly brave thing to do,

It's quite clear that many of the adverse responses on the Blackpool FC Twatter are bot generated. They all have identical wording.

The really nasty, vicious responses are, to probably nobody's surprise, from arabic / Muslim Twatters. This is because there are no muslim gay men :ffsparr:

But let's not forget, homophobia is alive and well in this country too. The Christian fundamentalist bakers in Northern Ireland who refused to make a cake for a gay couple. The Christian fundamentalists in England who refused to sell their house to a gay couple.

Religious fundamentalism in all its guises is extremely dangerous.

Brighton factually.....
Sad this is actually news in 2022, and sad he is getting abuse already.

Good luck to the fella, and hopefully more people will be able to be open about their sexuality, not that it should matter or be anyone's business.

Good lad.

How anyone could think that there aren’t gay people in pro football, given the stats, is a bit odd.

Not sure why it needs a formal announcement but yeah, okay. Will that be all? Good lad, back to practice please.

I would be amazed if he doesn't get anything other than unanimous support form Blackpool fans if/when he plays. Most people don't care what his sexuality is so long as he puts his all in and those that do care will keep quiet, just like the racists do at the moment. I suspect that most away fans will have forgotten his name by the beginning of next season but there will be some who try to make a joke of it. It will be up to the rest of the fans to self police this, just as it is with racism at the moment.

Social media, as ever, is where the problem will be. Virtually all of the negative comments will be from people who don't have an interest in Blackpool FC and quite possibly don't even know which division they are in. As with most social media, it is best ignored although I'm sure Jake Daniels will find this difficult to do.

Football has got plenty of '' Crazies '' to go around - Look at all the Chelsea fans still chanting Abramovich's name even after his Putin invaded Ukraine

He surely put himself in a prime position to deal with it though, by telling it to the media immediately rather than waiting for rumours, paparazzi and whatnot to (possibly) reveal it. By saying it like he did, he owns it completely. If people on Facebook/Twitter etc. write that you are a shit player, or that you are ugly or dumb or whatever, there may be nerves and self-doubt but from the position he placed himself in, I don't think the "boo! ****ing manlover" (or whatever) is going to reach him.

In some ways it is similar to when people throw bananas at black players and they just pick it up and eat it - taking total command over the situation and effectively permanently silencing people.

I’m just glad it wasn’t our club that’s first as the backlash would of been awful against the city .

Be interesting to see if any more come out now
