Did anyone think his shot was going anywhere close until it thumped against the bar?

Seemed to be drifting over in slow-motion, their keeper watching it and then, suddenly, it smashed aghast the bar.

I was sitting directly behind the goal - as soon as he hit it, it looked like a balloon - I put my head in my hands, only to look up seconds later wondering why the ball was still in play. Had to wait 'til MotD to see how terrible a judge I am of quality.

Can’t believe the amount of excuses Brighton fans offer up. No wonder everyone thinks we’re a soft touch. AJ has been an absolute flop and one decentish performance against the bottom side (by some margin) and all is forgiven. Reminds me of the clamour about Locadia before Xmas. ‘Cause he didn’t go back to being pony did he? Anyway, if AJ puts in 6 outstanding appearances between now and the end of the season including 3-4 goals then he might get a 6 or 7 / 10 for the entire season in my book. Otherwise he deserves no more than a 4/10, maybe 3/10 because he’s our record buy and frankly we should expect more than he’s delivered.

Don't think he's been an 'absolute flop' personally - more that he's not played enough to be able to prove he was worth what we've paid. Trending towards a flop perhaps................but given a run of starts who knows..........

Both he and Locadia have come from the Eredivisie which is a step or two below the Premier League - it's taken Locadia a year or so to get up to speed and it will probably take until next season to see the best of AJ. Hopefully with the three points we got on Saturday we will now have that time. I thought he looked very good today.

Thought he's looked good in patches every time he's played. O way a flop, has shiwn enough to know thats not the case. Couldn't say that about Locadia until very recently.

He's been in and out and has to adapt to both the physicality of the PL and playing for a side that demands more attention to defensive roles for their wingers. Stick him in a top half side and he'd be raved about.

I thought he had as good a game as Knockeart, which as we were playing a Championship standard team shouldn't come as a surprise and puts some context on Saturday being his best game to date.

But he’s still done nothing to date regardless, so until then...flop he is! :)

The Grauniad thought he had his best game too

2) Jahanbakhsh shows promise of goals for Brighton
It has not been easy for Alireza Jahanbakhsh to adapt to the Premier League during his first year in England, but the Iran international showed he can be a threat in Brighton’s vital win against Huddersfield. Jahanbakhsh was Brighton’s most enterprising player after being handed his fourth league start of the season, and he was unfortunate to be taken off moments before Florin Andone’s late winner. The 25‑year‑old winger, who has struggled since his £17m move from AZ Alkmaar, could have scored twice and will feel he played well enough to keep José Izquierdo on the bench when Chris Hughton’s side visit Crystal Palace this weekend. “I am hoping we are going to see more,” Hughton said. “He is a goalscorer and that is why we brought him in. You like to think that with Alireza in the team we can get more goals.” Jacob Steinberg

Key stat there is 'fourth start' - he's had very little real chance to prove himself, and no extended run in the team.......give him 4 or 5 games in a row and let's see what happens.......

Played well and I've been vocal about his porr performances so far ( on here ).

Much much better.

Reckon will get the nod over Izzy sat , good competition.

Locadia injury maybe blessing in disguise. Havent been at all convinced by him .

Pleased for AJ

Great partnership with Bernardo today - defended really well, and showed some lovely skilful touches. Good that Chris showed faith in him, even in the Selhurst "cauldron".

Like him but just has no pace. Would have rather March or Izzy playing, same as last week. But he’s playing better is AJ.
