had to happen, will never be forgotten by Albion fans and she can have a cup of tea with me at any time.
all very well this lot resigning (ministers and MP's from all parties) but who do you replace them with ...........somebodies got to run the country ......and several years down the line they will all go probably for the same reasons.
Power = thinking you are TEFLON and filling your coffers with other peoples money

Well, to be pedantic - she rubber-stamped something that had already been decided long before she took that post. I doubt she'd even heard the word "Falmer"

err not she didn't.

that was why we had to go through TWO public enquiries.

I don't think Martin Perry (for one) would have thouht this was a simple rubber stamping exercise.

(and I know about rubber stamping exercises, having done a few submissions to ministers to do just that!)

The trouble with all these tories calling for an election to susposedly 'cleanse' parliament is that the voters won't get the choice they require. Any sitting MP who has abused the system should be up for deselection by the constituency party and that is not happening. At least there are 50 labour MPs standing down at the next election (although they should actually retire immediately). Far fewer Tory MPs seem to be standing down apart from the Kilbride/McKay and the Wintertons and possible a couple of others. If we have a general election, Tory voters will sit for their sitting candidate irrespective of his misdemeanors as will labour supporters because they will be looking at the wider issues of who will govern the country after the election.

I think Gordon Brown has more integrity than most politicians but he lacks charisma and leadership skills which mean the media can hang him out to dry. What the Country needs is the MPs expenses rules to be changed and once this is done, a leadership election for the Labour party and then the General election. Tories only want an election now because they are ahead in the polls. It will not solve the problems of corrupt MPs regaining their seats so those that have transgressed and not stood down will get away with it.

No, I meant that she'd only been in office for a very short time when it happened (I can't remember, wasn't it just couple of weeks ?). Ruthie was there for most of it - and obviously the whole episode was not just rubber-stamping, just the very last little (but important) bit.
