Brighton. NOT KEMPTOWN!
After a plethora of excellent photos from other NSC members this week, the challenge was to try to be a bit different.
I witnessed the wedding cake being fitted to the dog's head of the south-west thrust block. Hark at me. Proper site engineer now. Watch out Natterjack, I'm after your job!
Terracing being cast in front of south stand.
West standing as ever lately, creeping towards the rapidly growing north stand.
I couldn't choose the best 15 photos today, so there's 20 coming up, 4 lots of 5.

The one of the arch is now saved as wallpaper, an amazingly positive image of the future so close now.

As ever thanks JS, top work.

Amazing picture, thanks. I am amazed to see how quickly the roof has gne up on the East stand. I looks like the stadium will begin to really look like a proper football ground within the next couple of months.

Love it.

As silly as it sounds, I still struggle to comprehend that that is our stadium.

It's absolutely bloody brilliant!

Excellent work as always, JS.

It will have been asked before, but why do the North and South Stands seem to go only two thirds of the way towards the West Stand? Will they be completed once the West Stand is built or is there another reason?

Fantastic as usual Graeme.
20 photos today must mean you're really getting into this whole stadium thing.
I was going to come over this morning to get some panoramics from differnt angles, but I'm laid up at home at the moment with an old back muscle injury, hopefully next week. But these have cheered me up no end.

Any idea what's been going on at the roadworks re the demolition of a support?

Because the 2 remaining thrust blocks (now only 1) had to be completed first. There had to be room for all the scaffolding (see pics) and also the steelwork connects to the blocks.

Sorry to hear about you being laid up. It's carrying that massive ladder and heavy camera that's caused that!

Falmer bridge works update

25 March 2010

The roadworks at Falmer are now well underway. The works are part of a planning condition

placed upon Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club for its new stadium development and are

being delivered by Brighton & Hove City Council (BHCC) with principal contractor Osborne.

The project team is currently addressing an issue around the construction of one of the new

bridge supports, which could potentially affect its long term durability, and has decided to take

down and replace this part of the structure at no cost to BHCC to ensure that the that the new

bridge will last for the proposed 120 year design life without requiring major maintenance.

This reconstruction work will commence next week (w/c 29th March) and will not affect the

timetable for the stadium coming into operation.

The project was originally scheduled to be completed by the end of October but exceptionally

bad weather during January and February and unforeseen issues surrounding buried

statutory services have delayed completion.

Osborne is hoping to adapt its project schedule so that the changes to the bridge abutment do

not affect the overall completion date. A programme review is currently underway following

which an update on timing will be provided.

A spokesperson for Osborne said: “We apologise for any disruption caused by this project

and offer our assurance that we are firmly focussed on mitigating any situation that affects the

length of the project.”

A Council spokesman added: “As anyone who has ever watched a building show on TV

knows – few projects escape without technical snags. And like the TV shows this will be fixed

by the contractor and we’ll end up with a sound structure.

“The council regrets the temporary nuisance to residents in terms of access to Stanmer Park

and village.”

Ah, I see. Thanks very much for the info.

Keep up the good work, all those concerned. Both with the building and the photo-taking!
