i thought that it was the single tier side opposite the main stand


It is, but just looking at the metalwork structure you can see the potential for a second tier at a later date. The front metalwork looks to have the perfect angle ready for the top level if its ever required. If you think this looks good wait till they start work on the west ( 3 tier) stand!

can anyone tell me what the last pic is of?

You mean the concrete pump pouring concrete onto the big boot scraper thing?

I believe it is part of the roof arch support-which Martin Perry described as 'bearing a load the equivalent of an express train going at 60mph". There will be one in each corner (of the stadium).

If you follow the lines of this thing you can visualise the location of the arch.

I know this is the West stand but you can see how it works.
