I'm not entirely convinced that signing a 36 year old forward with no pace is top of Mark McGhee's list of priorities at the moment.

Signing 36 year olds and other veterans is what 3rd division teams do. It's a risky short term fix - Kitson/Rodger/Blackwell haven't we had enough knackered old men? Let's show a bit more ambition and get up and coming players not has beens ??

Sorry Phaedrus but ....... Why is it that every time some 5th rate has-been gets released people people say 'sign him up'? We had all this with Mark Robins earlier on in the season. I said we needed a bigger 'lump' up front not another knight-esque player. This proved correct and it was an easy call to make but it didn't stop some NSC-ers (hi Marshy!) from getting it wrong.

Why don't we try and re-sign Jeff Minton? (That is a joke btw)

But, as you say, this is to do with his size/the type of player he is, not his age ... Blackwell and Rodger have both been good signings, who were unfortunate enough to get injured, whilst signing Kitson is incomparable - everyone knew he was knackered, he was a desperation signing

Why not sell Leon Knight for £500k give Chelseas their 50% and with the remainder pay the wages for Roberts, a proven Div 1 scorer for 1 season and achieve the same result. That would then leave Leons wages to pay for midfielder.

One or two of you will try to ridicule the suggestion, eg. large one but try.I know it is difficult for some, but try to be constructive in your criticism.

Iwan Roberts probably does still have a season left in him, but personally I would rather we went after Paul Heffernan at Notts Co. He's been left out of the squad for tomorrow's game because he is apparently off in the summer. If that means he is out of contract and showing no sign of wanting to stay, then let's have a look.

Anyone who scores as many goals as him in as bad a team as Notts Co, must have something to offer.

He's got more years left in him than Roberts, and would be much cheaper on wages. Granted, if we go up he is unproven at that level, but if the only 'proven' div 1 players we can afford are 35+ then the truth is we have no choice but to go for unproven Div 1.

Roberts wouldn't be bad, but I'd much rather Heffernan.

I would not be happy if we replaced Leon with Roberts and I'm not naive enough to believe that any profits received for Leon would be ploughed back into the team. So effectively we would replace an up and coming livewire with an old timer looking for one more payday. No thanks

We'd never get 500k for Leon anyway

Think Leon is a good bet to make it long term, I would love to see what he could do with a prolonged run in the first division, after all we never got to see the best of BZ last season due to injury.

For me there is a very difficult choice between signing older players who you know can do a job in a particular division and giving a younger player an extended run in the first team. This season has shown us precisely this, look at two of our better players, Butters and Virgo, one has been around the block a little (well as far as MacDonalds) and the other is a product of our youth set up. For me there is no doubt that Virgo is worthy of a place in the team and I believe he can go on to become a bit of a legend with the Albion, whereas Butters is the older head at the centre of defence and his presence and experience have certainly helped our right back settle into the team. Hopefully this will replicate itself with Cullip and Harding on the other side of defence.

It is a difficult balancing act, if you look through our team I think that we have got it just about right at the moment, despite my misgivings about midfield creativeness against Brizzle last saturday.

I would think that comparing Leon Knight with Leon McKenzie when at Peterborough there is very little to choose between them and they apparently quoted £500k when Coppell asked on our behalf.

I believe that any team wanting to get out of this division i.e. arelegated side or perhaps just outside play offs this year would look at Knight at that price.

Whether or not the money received would be used to put back into the team is another point.
