Salt doesn't help but anything the raises your Uric levels does it; the worst additions are preservatives, coulorings, flavourings or yeast. That's why Chinese food is so bad for gout, the ol' MSG! Oh, and shellfish, mushrooms, asparagus, any offal, beer, wine, port, fizzy drinks, flavoured crisps, etc etc!

Hey ho, everything in moderation! Poor old sod that I am!

That's funny - no-one has EVER given me any food advice for goat, and I am on medication permanently for it - have been for about 12 years.

Fill your boots

Place one kid goat with hams and shoulders on bottom of roasting rack top with the ribs and backstrap or tenderloin. Make a basting sauce of the following:
One kid goat
1 stick of butter, we prefer unsalted butter for the sweet taste
2 cloves of fresh garlic, minced
1 Teaspoon Salt Juice of one lime
1 Tablespoon Soy Sauce
1 Tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce
1 Tablespoon Celery Salt
1/2 Teaspoon each, Rosemary, Basil, Savory and Oregano
1/2 Teaspoon Black Pepper
Melt butter in microwave and add the garlic, salt and lime juice. Heat thoroughly in microwave. Add the rest of the ingredients. Pour over cabrito and roast for about 3-4 hours covered with foil, basting often with the sauce in the roasting pan. After 4 hours, uncover and baste thoroughly and cook in oven an additional 45 minutes to 1 hour. This will cause the meat to crust over. Baste with the sauce as often as you can. This will keep the meat from drying out. Carve and serve with fresh pico de gallo and sliced avocado.

Just seen this thread after finishing a nice hot mug of Bovril. The 'one teaspoon from the jar in a mug of boiling water' variety. No poncy granules here. I've warmed up nicely though I now have 3rd degree scalding on my tongue and the roof of my mouth as (per Tim over Whelmed) I tried drinking it while it was till far too hot.

Cheers Spiros!

Seriously there is so much you can do to stave off the pain and still have the occassional treats. I drink Harveys, Red Wine fairly regular but avoid a lot of the real baddies. Cherries are the only food that actually lower your Uric levels ... trust me if the did a Gout Degree I'd have an hons.

I was in servere pain the first time I got it - ended up in A&E, since I've been on the medication (Allopurinol), I never notice it. I see doctors very regularly for failing kidneys, but no-one ever mentions the gout.
