Did Lewes leave in their instruction about "all major stadia"?

This was what was in the version that appeared briefly on the LDC website:-

"[PROVIDE EXAMPLES OF THE TYPE OF MITIGATION MEASURES
THAT CAN BE PUT IN PLACE AT WILSON AVENUE/WARREN
ROAD]
IN YOUR SUMMARY MAKE SURE THAT YOU SAY THAT THIS IS
VERY GOOD COMPARED TO MOST STADIA IN URBAN AREAS
AND THAT THERE WILL BE NO PROBLEMS"



They did manage to omit it from the final version. The consultants have, however, attempted to "provided examples of the type of mitigation measures that can be put in place at Wilson Avenue/Warren Way":-

"For example visitors using the car parking at the stadium could be encouraged to arrive earlier in order to spread the impacts of traffic on the local road network. In practice, visitors to the stadium are likely to do this anyway in order to avoid pre-match demands on the highway network".


In other words - there IS going to be gridlock, but this can be avoided if supporters don't travel in the hour before kick-off.

Is it just me, or does this reasoning look PATHETIC to other people as well?

It's a wish and a hope. Hardly the solid evidence needed. Also, In my experience, EVERY football ground is at its very very busiest in that half hour before kick off.


...and what about after full time? Everybody leaves together so guranteed gridlock. I'm guessing you've already noted this, LB.

I think you can add COMEDIC to the reasoning too, I'm surprised they didn't suggest that supporters don't bother attending matches at all in order to avoid the gridlock!!!

Then the club could save themselves a few quid by not building a stadium at Sheepcote Valley, as their won't be anyone attending 'cos they're at the cinema. Congestion problems completely solved!!! And I'm not even a transport consultant!!

Presumably if they want us to arrive at the match a couple of hours beforehand to spread the load, perhaps we ought to also be prepared to stay on afterwards till, say, about 8pm to avoid the gridlock after the match.

Should make supporting the Albion into an all day event!

actually that is a very good point.

I have noticed that when you go to watch Rugby, there is not this fevourish crush to get out of the ground as there is at football.

At the Madj, the bars remain open after the game and people head for them to watch the results coming through on sky and basically socialise.

One of the main pleasures of rugby is heading for the bar afterwards - in fact, I think it's the main pleasure.

Many a long hour has been spent in the London Welsh bar drinking Felinfoel.

But I can't see us doing the same at the Albion unless there's some Harveys on offer.

Ed, while you're going through it, if you could just proof read it all for insignificant typos etc, thus ensuring that Ruth Kelly doesn't bugger it all up on a trifling technicality this time.

I'm surprised LDC haven't hired that Nick Freeman barrister- the one who gets all the rich people off their drink drive charges on the grounds that there weren't any road signs warning his client not to drink 15 pints before getting into his X5, or a traffic officer forgot to put a full stop at the end of his statement.

I can just see LDC riding up to the European Court of Human Rights with Freeman in tow, complaining that a Yes decision to Falmer was invalid because some civil servant inadvertently spelled the Latin name of a bat species native to Village Way wrongly.

I know LDC are only picking out what they want, but the First Inspector wasnt that overkeen on our proposals for falmer at all was he? just read the bit about job creation, benefits for the community.....etc.
