[Albion] It's the opposition, not us

Except this isn't what has happened. Not just MOTD, but radio, podcasts ,print, sky/BT, pretty much everywhere - Albion are absolutely getting credit for their impressive form/displays.
MOTD called our football "Delicious" on Saturday. Shearer, Ian Wright and Mark Chapman all acknowledged how fantastic we were and how they enjoyed watching our football. . See here also for the papers and their praise. https://www.brightonandhovealbion.com/news/2835625/the-media-review-liverpool/ Won't quote some podcasts but they've all done likewise.

Sorry but you have been listening with your BHA earmuffs on. Yes the pundits have been saying how well we play and how good we are to watch, however in the next breath they then invariably go on to say how UTD Lpool etc were not switched on/not up to their best/started slowly/ and allowed Brighton to play, didnt shut us down etc etc ad nauseam. What you never hear is Brighton were able to shut a very good team down that even though x team is playing well they were not up to Brightons standard etc. There is always an excuse for why we win games we are "not supposed to".

To be fair, I have seen Liverpool play much better than they did on Saturday.

It was 3-3, we scored a last minute goal, both sides contributed to the game, both sides conceded goals they'll feel they should have prevented. This Liverpool team give or take won the Champions League, the title, both domestic cups last season - they've played better football for a long period of time. If you honestly feel that was Liverpool playing as well as they could do under the pressure from us then hats off to you, but I thought the analysis was spot on which pointed out Liverpool's current frailties and how we exploited them. I've also heard many times this season and last season how we were simply better than the other team, in particular the 2 North London games in April were presented as us being the better team.

The praise is coming thick and fast and the world of football has turned it's devious eyes onto our club and the resources, tactics, processes and staff within it.

Indeed, thankfully though they can’t buy TB, and at some point they’ll realise that he is the mastermind behind the rise and rise of the Seagulls. They’ll keep buying our finest players for £50M+ only to find they’ve already been replaced. At some point we’ll qualify for Europe and our top players will stay a little longer. UTA.

Sometimes the opposition can only play as well as the team lets them. Stifle them, get into positions where they cannot play their game etc

It's generally opposition fans who come out with this, "we were rubbish" stuff, rather than the pundits.

I think the pundit class has mostly latched onto us not being a relegation struggler now and mostly grasp that this isn't a flash in the pan.

Other team's supporters are much slower with this. But I think it's a football fan trait generally to look at your own teams failings rather than the quality of the opposition. When it's a football fan pundit, like Shearer, Wright, Neville etc etc and we've beaten their team, they clearly start speaking in their capacity as a fan, rather than a pundit ... because they aren't very professional .... and that's when we get the pundits give us no credit at all.

Blimey. We are a needy lot.
It is absolutely laughable isn't it?

On Saturday, all the pundits - to a man - went out of their way to start their analysis pointing out how good we were. They then moved onto Liverpool's deficiencies, yet some people on here (esp the OP) are grizzling that this isn't fair. Liverpool - one of the best club teams on the planet for the past 5 years - were held at home, conceded 3 and were 2-0 down in the first half hour, and that could have been 4 - against an admittedly good side, but who nevertheless finished 9th last season. And for some pathetic needy reason, some people on here are whining that it isn't reasonable to analyse why that might have been.

Shit threads like this put me off NSC, they are utter cringe.

I’ve got Arsenal mates - we beat them - they told me they played shit
I’ve got Spurs mates - we beat them - they told me they played shit
I’ve got Man Utd mates - we beat them loads - they told me they played shit
Same with my Liverpool supporting mates
And even I know a Leeds fan and every single time they haven’t beaten us - guess what they played shite !!

On not any occasion, was their first thought was to say fair play you out done us today, you outclassed us, you are a great side

Will always be thus. Remember Sheffield Utd from a few seasons back, they had exactly the same from all other teams - including from us, when they beat us at the Amex it was agreed almost to a man it was because we were shite, not because Wilders Sheffield United made us look shite

I often find Jurgen Klopp very frustrating with his moody comments when things don't go his way.
But hats off to him for his magnanimous comments in the above clip.
It has increased my respect for him.

I think my overall summary of the comments in this thread are that our performances are often measured by a perceived weakness in our opponents, however that dialogue is slowly decreasing week by week.

What a time to be an Albion fan, I'm actually going into Saturday's game believing (and expecting) that we can beat a Champions League side that contains world class players.

I honestly don't get people's gripes. Everything I've read and seen for months and months has been super positive about us.

Ok I cannot verify never, but I dont remember Brighton beating an on paper superior team and the pundits saying that the team played really well but Brighton were just too good, or that Brighton played so well that the other team was unable to play their normal game. All I recall is hearing versions of Brighton played well but the opposition was below par and that the poor performance was due to the team not playing well rather than Brighton preventing them from playing well.

Can you give an example of this for a Brighton game this season ? And the specific pundits who you argue aren’t being fair to the Albion.

Exactly this.

For a fair old time we've been media darlings of sorts, and we receive far more media coverage and far more POSITIVE media coverage than most other #TeamsLikeBrighton.

However, in related news, I love how many Palace fans seem to think that we predominantly catch sides when they are off-form and not performing, allowing us to fluke our way to victory. I do wonder when the penny will finally drop with them, and they come to terms that lots of side are "off form" when they face us, and it's not just a bizarre coincidence.

On a scale of bad losers, he’s way down from the likes of Mourinho, Warnock and Tuchel. From memory he always says nice things about us, even after losing points.

Warnock’s awful. When a Championship team won fairly at his Cardiff a couple of years ago, a televised game, he hid in his office until their coach had driven off. Tuchel couldn’t hack lost points, always the bitch.
