I showed this advert to my 12year old daughter last night, who could not believe this was allowed at anytime to be on tv.
My wife remembers the advert, and thinks although it is funny, is now gladly a thing of the past.
Me I think it’s funny, and probably because I’m a white heterosexual 50 plus male, don’t really think beyond that, I guess that’s wrong.

Is this a timeless harmless funny advert ?
or an embarrassment that quite rightly a thing of the past.

Its a rip off of Monty Pythons Life of Brian, the stoning scene. Comedy like this is timeless but there will always be people who suck the joy out of life. Sadly these puritans have captured the entertainment industry at the moment.

I gave the standard crap answer that you deserved , you did exactly what i despise the most in these sort of conversations . There are no right answers with people like you , if i call a woman pretty - i am objectifying her , if i call her ugly - i am rude and judgemental . If i say the women i know would either laugh at that advert or just dismiss it without another thought , that wouldn`t make you happy either . The simple fact is that there is no offence if you are intelligent enough to see through it , if you cant then good luck with life .
You need to back off on this occasion.

Or perhaps, using your sort of terminology, people like you need to learn to back off from things they don't understand.

Not all the women you know are all the women.

Culture wars.

I have some news for you. There is no such thing. It's just a few old men moaning on internet chat sites.

In NYC , ordering a Diet Coke at a bar is seen as quite effeminate if you’re a man .
Sure it is. All the bars in NYC are exactly the same, right? All beefy men in suits, and women who know their place.

I'll just leave this here.

FWLIW I thought of this before LoB.

Obviously I'm disgusted now, it's not funny and I'm quite clearly not the messiah. 🙄

Please don’t take offence. I’m merely pointing out that a weight of adverts like this is damaging, and really it’s not our job to find women attractive anymore than it’s their job to find us emotionally immature. You can, by all means call someone pretty. There’s just no need for us to make it part of our job description for life. And I love Yorkies.

It's great though, dismissing something as woke means that old blokes can avoid discussion of opinions they don't like whilst simultaneously clinging on to the idea that they support free speech.

I am still yet to see a woke opinion about this ad or anyone claiming to be 'offeneded' by it. The most extreme opinion about it on this thread is that it is pythonesque🤣.

Culture wars seem to be to be sinking into McCarthyism. Watch out for wokes under the cloaks people.

do you think people were happier back then ....?? it makes me cringe when men are outraged on women's behalf over something that was filmed 40 odd years ago when most women really couldn't care less.

Well you have nothing to worry about then.
I take it from this response that you are a firm believer in wokism and the culture wars.

Would you post your best example of wokism and it's negative effect on society?

This is a genuine request as I am struggling to understand what it is that the 'anti- woke' are fighting against. FWIW I don't doubt that there are people out there who are offended by stuff. I am just struggling to understand their numbers and power over anything.

Do you actually see anyone outraged though? I've read this thread and seen two posts on FB about this campaign. Many people referencing people being outraged and offended . . . But I haven't seen anyone actually outraged or offended?

People are more saying either it's not/never has been funny or 'it wouldn't fly today. Surely neither of these opinions is particularly outrageous?

sarcasm noted but i can assure you that is far from the truth.
Been a while since I have been there but back then, there was a difference in NYC bars the further out from the centre you got.

Why the f*** is anyone even talking about a forty year old advert? It's not on telly anymore. It hasn't been for decades. It wasn't particularly funny then, it isn't now. I din't get the relevance now? Or am I missing something? Has some Milllie Tant been getting herself into a funkle again? Or have the "anti-woke" mob been triggered again?
