Delighted to see those responses. Showed the class of this club. For me, anyone that can't appreciate just how amazing Grimsby have been in the Cup this season isn't really a proper football fan. Their type of cup run is what it's all about. Totally different when we play Manchester United at Wembley. Beat any of the big 6 or Newcastle and it's fair game to rub their noses in it. Financially, we're the Grimsby in those ones!

Deary me! Really?! That's the whole point of football chants, taking the piss out of the opposition. I don't go to get pally with away fans. This is the attitude of our fans that contributes to why our home atmosphere is so shit at times! Boils my piss.

Wait till you get into your 40s, young man, and start to think about what is actually important in this world.

I've had some great times, grumbling about shit football and the unfairness of it all with home fans in pubs in Rotherham, Plymouth and the like, at away games (and always with half an eye on getting a cheeky win, and the day's smirking rights, by 5.15 when the dust had settled). (Sometimes, sometimes not) grudging recognition of one's fellow sufferer in the great quest to be not shit, and have real pride in real success, is a thing of beauty.

The home atmos is always good in West upper, albeit the seats up here are not awash with seething youngsters, hoping with increasing desperation as the game goes on for the holy Trinity of the buzz of coke, booze and God-given points-winning goals to kick in, and send the serotonin levels sky-high in Shatner's Bassoon. ???

having spent 15 years or so traipsing around lower league away games re Tranmere, Halifax, Scunthorpe etc when a decent away cup draw every 3 years was a highlight, I would have loved a welcome we gave Grimsby - quite why anyone would begrudge Grimsby fans a deserved day out yesterday, I really can't see

though I suspect the answer lies in the away fans chant of where were you when you were ... to which answer would be watching PL on TV and a Man Utd fan when they won everything and we were in League Two and League One

With a chance to get to Wembley and the semi final of the FA cup I think it was a Big Day for us also.
That was something that occurred to me during the game, when I'd previously been thinking that it was a shame they hadn't got a glamour tie against one of the Manchester clubs: those clubs and their supporters would probably have treated the game as an inconvenience on their way to contest one of the three domestic trophies that are on their target list every season. Whereas this was a rare shot at glory for us and despite the number of places between us and Grimsby in the leagues we didn't take the result for granted at all. The early goal didn't do much to settle our nerves while it stayed 1-0 through the first half.

Yes we ended up running away with it in the second but only because we kept fighting for the win, because the match was a proper contest for a prize that mattered to both sides. Our fans didn't have some patronising faux-respect for the "plucky" visitors: we were genuinely concerned that they could snatch this chance from us.

And that's one of the reasons why there's still some magic in the cup.

I think a better riposte would have been

"I was here, I was here, I was here when we were shit"
"Although over there (points to Withdean) - here was a f***ing field"
"Doesn't rhyme, doesn't rhyme, I know it doesn't rhyme you soppy tit"
"And the point you tried to make (before) was.....f***ing shit"

Watching their players stand in front of the fans taking it all in made me realise how far we have come. Just a few years back we would have been those fans just happy to play a premier league team.
Was happy to clap them off at the end

It was refreshing to see that when the 3rd 4th and 5th went in, there wasn't a mass exodus by the Grimsby fans, something that a few PL clubs fans visiting the Amex could learn from.

FWIW I didn't mean I'm venomous towards away fans, that's just stupid, but, at least I am not chatty until `after the final whistle. With banter thrown in of course!

Hang on, have you just mentioned Shatners Basson on two different threads. Very confusing when one has just got up
