This would be acceptable

Not for me.

If Villa win today, we need 3 more points to make sure they can't overtake us.
If they Draw we need 1 more point.

No way I will be cheering on Palace.
I have done it once this season. That was bad enough, but at least it was Bournemouth!
Won't be doing it again.

The media have been banging on about Palace's "excellent season".
Personally I want to see them lose their last 7 and watch us finish above them.

That's the ideal way to bounceback.

100% this, let’s put this relegation battle to bed

No surprise that we are well beaten by Man U, Liverpool and City and that Potter rests players in these matches. Fair enough IF we bounce back and get a minimum of 3 points in the matches vs. Saints, Newcastle and Burnley.
We are miles off the top 4 so should expect the odd drubbing but it’s a test of our character now

True...
I always think the test of a top manager is to get the players to draw a psychological line under drubbings like that and move on with determination and confidence.
Let's see if he can do it....

I haven’t seen any articles about our “ excellent season”? i think we’ve been poor tbh.
It’s sad that you consider finishing above us , defines your season.
Villa need to win today to have any chance, however slim, to stay up. If we win, we could finish top half, which would be a good end to a strange season.

I actually think we do try to win against the top 3 or 4 teams. But we try and win by playing them at their own game, but they are better at it.

I like the way Potter plays, but I think there is a naivety about him. At least Hughton realised that you need a different game plan against these world class teams. Burnley got a point at Anfield, with under 30% possession, and 2 shots on target.

Don't get me wrong, I don't want Hughton back, and I certainly wouldn't want to play like Burnley. But we will never beat a top side in-form, by going toe-to-toe with them.

No I don't fancy it. Throwing money away.

The point is we can either have a stressful end of season or a mellow end of season.

Me ? I'd rather :

Palace beat Villa
Leicester beat Bournemouth
Man City beat Bournemouth
Everton beat Villa

meaning Happy Days Are Here before we even kick off vs Southampton.

Agree, maybe it makes me a bad fan wanting palace to beat Villa, but as it stands I’m more interested in PL confirmation for next year than we finished 14th bragging rights

It's all about how we bounce back, we need 3 or 4 points from the last 3 games to achieve our goal. And end the season with heads held high.

I'll be quite happy for Palace to beat Villa. I'm far more concerned with not losing to Stains.

We need to end the season with heads in a good place as we'll be starting a new one very soon . . . And it'll be another tough survival battle

We've lost 4-1 v Man City (in 2019) and 4-0 v Liverpool (in 2018) under Hughton and 5-0 v Bournemouth for that matter. It wasn't always 0-0 draws.
Potter has ground out away draws v Wolves (7th), Sheff Utd (6th) and Leicester (4th) in the last 3 away games - hardly naive tactics there. We've beaten Arsenal twice this season by going toe to toe with them but perhaps they aren't a top side.

Doesn't make you a bad fan, it makes you a pragmatist, like me and plenty of others.

How do we need more points now, than we did at 6 o'clock?

Were you seriously relying on us taking points from City? Do you seriously believe either Villa or Bournemouth will catch us?
We are in , more or less the same position we were in at 6 o'clock. We 're
?9 points above Villa with a 13 goal advantage, we're 8 points in front of Bournemouth with a 12 goal advantage.

Indeed. I am probably guilty of exaggeration from time to time yet I still boggle at the absolute goonery that allows the size and importance of fixed items, such as numbers, to change based on mood. And I've probably said that a million billion times.

I get the impression that the Palace team are packed up ready for their hols. I hope not.
The Palace result against Cardiff last season was very important for us. Let's see if the players can do the right thing again today........

But not quite as sad as trawling through threads on your rivals forum.
