What is rather pleasing is how people you would not expect now actually want to talk ’BHA’. I was at my local BottleO getting the Xmas booze and the lad behind the till kept looking in my direction with a quizzical eye. When I went to pay he immediately asked what the crest was on my baseball cap? When I began to give the obvious answer he immediately began to enquire if it was the hitherto unheard of team doing so well in the EPL. Omce confirmed he asked more questions about how long the club had existed, where had it been until now, and how amazing we were doing against the might of the Big 6.

This has happened rarely since I have been here but it is becoming more commonplace. I think some of the younger Aussies who are really beginning to appreciate ‘soccer’ want an English club to follow without falling for the obvious choices from the colonial past. Just needs the two Mr Bs to put a bit more enthusiasm into converting the new interest over here.

We are staying just North of Perth in WA, and a few days ago we caught the train into Perth to visit the zoo there.

I was wearing a BHAFC T-shirt and one of the girls checking our tickets at the entrance said "Go Seagulls!" which was surprising coming from a probably 20 something Aussie (it felt very satisfying..

Later on the way home on the train North again a gentleman got on the train, immediately recognised my T-shirt and said something like "Up the Albion ".

I later chatted to him and it turns out Ben (as that was his name) is originally from Brighton and moved to WA 17 years ago, having watched the Albion at the Goldstone previously.

Lovely to meet Albion fans all over the world.

I'd hope that Ben is a member on here.

I do love the occasional long pass from the goal keeper to catch the opposition out.
One end to the other in about 20seconds, smack it over the bar into row z past the goalkeeper to be 1-0 before the other team know what's going on.
They key to that, obviously, is it's not just hoofing it out, it's taking advantage of the other team being out of position (partly because they're not expecting it).

I still think that Gross goal against United in the 4-1 win was a thing of beauty -- my favourite goal we scored in 2022. And that was under Potter. We do mix it up under both GP and RdZ. I'd like to see a little more of the longer stuff, but it's only minor details.

Reminds me of when I was in New York twenty years or so. Wearing my Albion shirt meandering down one of the avenues , someone shouted ‘Sheffield Wednesday are sh*t ‘ at me.

This is a myth obviously.

It is a myth that the boys just spent all games passing it around among the defenders with GP in charge. Very clear from the statistics. It is also a myth that the team never spends a long time passing it around at the back with RDZ, as seen in the games against Villa and Nottingham.

We'll see a lot of passing between the defenders and central midfielders again - because it is unavoidable (unless you are City and have players EVERYWHERE that can just easily carry the ball past 2 or 3 players) against teams that just sit deep. You have to circulate the ball to find spaces or a free player and sometimes that just takes time if the opponent is focused on covering all the spaces with 9 or 10 players.

It's not a myth. If you have statistics that show how many passes went across the pitch from CB to CB under Potter compared to under De Zerbi I would be interested to see them. It is true that the CBs often passed to Bissouma/Caicedo in the pivot under Potter but it is done quicker in the build up under De Zerbi.

Nope, I don't have a specific stat showing CB to CB passes.

But stats showing Brighton playing more in the own third, CBs having more of the ball etc does not indicate a quicker build-up.

Not that it matters one bit. Shit teams have quick build-up, good teams are doing it slowly.

That genuinely does still rankle with me. All the way up to Carrow Road for that evening game with a massive spring in our step, only to watch a pitiful performance because it appeared the whole team had been on the lash celebrating promotion.

To then completely take our foot off the gas and say to Newcastle... there you go, have the title if you want it, we've got what we came for...felt really deflating.

I'm not gutted about Charlton though. Mainly because it was Charlton and I have a bit of a soft spot for them, so in a bizarre way I didn't really mind going out to them, especially in that manner. It was all a bit comical really.

I remember sitting on the floor in the car park at Villa Park and feeling like we had been relegated! So upset and disappointed. We were a shoe-in to win it. Shocking management and ill-discplined players who couldn't stay off the sauce cost us dear. After the euphoria against Wigan what came next was a complete let down.

"Dicking around at the back" can come in many guises. The "dicking around at the back" played by Liverpool, Man City, Barca and the like is what I call "progressive dicking around at the back". Where each pass is forward (if not that far forward) but all the momentum is front foot.

We spent too long playing very high risk negative "dicking around at the back" (those goals against Liverpool being prime examples)

It seems to me that RDZ has a more high paced, progressive style of "dicking around at the back" which i'm more than happy to watch.

It truly was pathetic. Worst for me was seeing the Championship Championes podium being discretely placed pitchside by the NS prior to the Bristol City game. Then discretely being packed away again after the pissheads furked it up in front of the home fans. Oh well, guess the filly suckers can live with their loser medals
