He just probably thought it was a foul that was worthy of a yellow card and therefore a second one and a red. I doubt his over-confidence played any part in it. As a referee myself never once have I thought "I'm going to send a player off here" due to hubris.

I agree it was a terrible decision.

I thought he was being sensible to the cup final when he didnt produce a red for the penalty as he clearly wasnt playing for the ball. But then he did that and ruined it. Dont think it has changed the result though.

It's been used since the twelfth century. That's why numerals can be such an issue. Arabic numerals in blackletter just wouldn't have existed because Europe used Latin numerals. That's why Arsenal should be disqualified.
