Carpeneter wasn't doing anything right and we were not getting enough on their goal so he should have put Hart on on the Right of Midfield instead of Carpenter and pushed Knight further up front to feed off of Claridge.

Spot on Grandad. That was the substitution I was waiting for - in actual fact, I'd've probably started that way. I was really looking forward to Knight feeding off Claridge but it just wasn't played. I was so gobsmacked at Knight not being up front with Claridge, I spent the first 15 minutes believing it was Jarrett on the wing !!!

McGhee probably thought the game was drifting for a draw and the point would have been OK.

Absolutely not. We have to beating teams like Burnley at home FFS. Very pissed off to be playing a 4-5-1 at home.

Thought this myself too.

My reading of the Knight substitution was that MM wanted balls in the box and perhaps Harty was a bit more of a muscular presence with headers than KNight.

Currie for all of his good work on the ball delivered too many crosses that went straight to the keep that wouldnt have been reached even if we had Alan Shearer up front.

Has Leon Knight got the stamina to push up front for a long ball, unless we play through midfield? (which is why he was dropped at West Ham)

Could Carpenter play at right back?

He couldn't play as a midfielder today. That must have been his worst game ever.

Goal for the 3pts at Leicester.

Goal for the 3pts at Forest.

Touch that forced Carlisle OG for 3pts at Leeds.

Salvaged the draw at Watford.

Won the decisive free kick at West Ham.

You have very high standards, BG, a bit too high for our current situation.

That 'Carlisle OG' has now been credited to Virgo as a goal.

As BG correctly states the main thing we miss about Virgo is his physical prowess at set-pieces at both ends of the pitch. Considering that he was completely isolated up front and had little match practice Claridge did well. His lay-offs, flicks etc were far superior to Virgo, the only problem was that there was not another Albion player within 20 yards to benefit. Surely Leon Knight would have thrived on playing alongside a genuine striker, if he had the chance.

Virgo has done a decent job upfront, but the initial suprise factor has gone and he has been found out by quite a few recent opponents. If Claridge stays he may struggle to get back in the first X1, as he looked very ordinary at right-back and there is much competition at centre-back(his best position).

Which recent opponents? Apart from Derby he has caused problems against most teams IMHO. The problems have come when he hasn't been playing.
