The 2 players who went off would have had better chance of scoring penalties than bringing on 2 players for 1 minute, Southgate proved me wrong lots this tournament but made one mistake right at the very end. I know we have a good team but we won’t get a chance like this again, even if we host a major competition England won’t get so many games at Wembley.

And ****ed it up by not actually going for it. That game was there for the taking but Southgate is not a winner and his safety first tactics meant we got beat the first time we met a a decent team in both tournaments. Plucky losers AGAIN

Italian players are better footballers. Fact.

Borne out by an endless pile of trophies.

EPL clubs without overseas players would be technically light years behind Serie A.

Over it already.

The sun will come up tomorrow and it’s back to the Albion.

Words of wisdom Bry.

Luckily, they won’t be coming for Potter as Southgate has done so well.

Make no mistake. Potter would have been a lot braver in this tournament and won it for us.

I know it's disappointing but we need to get things in perspective. Losing in the final is better than not qualifying or going out in the group stage.

Saying that I think Southgate bottled it again. Didn't attempt to make changes and affect the game, it was all too passive when we were clearly going nowhere.

Don’t judge the players from what they’d do with their runner up medals. They’ve put a lot into the past few weeks and they’re probably feeling sick after that.

Anyone that thought we went into that match as favourites needs their head testing. Italy have been there and done it, which counts when it comes to the crunch. Sure, England sat back on the lead. Which team doesn’t? Especially when it’s not won a trophy for 55 years.

Well done to the England lads. Brilliant effort. Hopefully it will make them even stronger for the World Cup.

Unfortunately our bravery deserted us in the Final - too much to lose I guess.

After a brilliant start we decided to defend a 1-0 lead for 80 minutes - Gareth is no Houghton.

I feel really sorry for the keeper and back line and Rice and Philips who were all outstanding tonight -

Rice and Phillips were immense in mopping up danger.

Jorgingho and Veratti similarly protected very old CB’s, but also ran the game beautifully with the ball, Pirlo-esque. Creating wave after wave of forays forward.

England lack that, we stunk the game out after a great start.

He's got an awful lot right this tournament and he got the first 45 minutes right here. But Mancini sussed him and he was unable to react to their changes. They nullified our creative players with Sterling and Mount hardly getting a kick in the second half and us becoming far to happy to defend.

But bringing on Saka was a poor decision. The poor kid looked scared rigid and was absolutely hopeless. Whoever's idea it was to stick him on fifth pen needs shooting. You could see he was distraught. And, while we're at it, don't bring Sancho on just to take a pen, Bring on his pace. Give Italy something to worry about.

In other words, I agree with you.

Grrrrr.

Pride in coming second? Sure, I agree they have plenty to be proud about but very happy to see that they only want to be winners. That’s the attitude England need.

Yeah - but the ‘ripping the medal off schtick’ is what I expect from an under 13s team.

When you win, win with pride. When you lose, lose with decency and respect for the competition.
