Problem is I booked the Eurostar unaware of the strike, so that option gets me back too late. A right piss off all round....
Can you call Eurostar and explain your situation? You never know, they might allow you onto a later train. Offer to write them a poem to smooth the discussion.

Great thanks. Very useful. I’ve found the 510 intercity that we are ironically booked on already (to Pisa) is listed as safe. Weirdly it says it’s calling at a different time in Rome (9:32 rather than 9:57 which our booking says) but it gets to Pisa at the same time so I assume must be the same one…
We're on that one as well so good to know.

And if they still say no, write them two poems.

That's the same train as we are booked on.

I've just checked the Italo site for out train, it's different to Tren Italia and our Florence train is still listed along with the rest of their services and tickets are still on sale.

09.57 shows as being OK - where do you get 09.32 from please?

One of my contacts in Milan has advised me that the Freccia Rosa trains between Roma Termini and Milano Centrale should be running OK on Friday. He therefore thinks that I shouldn’t have a problem getting from Rome to Milan, but getting from Milan to Malpensa Airport will be more difficult, with no buses or local trains running.

At the moment, I’m thinking as long as I can get to central Milan with plenty of time before my flight’s due to depart, at worse I can get a cab (albeit I expect these to be at a premium and consequently quite pricey).

If there aren’t any trains at all from Rome to Milan, then I’ll have to hire a car.

Luckily, my flight from Malpensa doesn’t depart until 10.40pm, so I should have time to sort something out, although I may not get the sightseeing time in Rome that I had hoped for.

Is there a bus strike too?

Did they say if that’s just the Rome to Milan route they’ll run a service for? We’re booked with Frecciarossa but to Verona.
You need to look at the link above showing which trains run on normal strike days….. and then try to guess if one is yours as it only gives the start/finish points/times!
