It wasn't a lack of effort, it was a severe lack of quality!

That is my summary of the second half yesterday. We tried and tried again in vain to break Walsall down.

There were players who worked hard yesterday, but the lack of quality against NINE men was the worrying thing.

I was just dismayed at the lack of imagination in the 2nd half yesterday - why continue to lob crosses into the 18yrd area when the keeper was about 7ft tall. I'm not saying we should have Wilkins back but I'd certainly prefer to see the more passing side of the game that we had last year, than the long ball crap we're producing at the moment. Other than Leyton orient we are the lowest scorers in the league - one tip for Micky get a bloody striker in !!!

Also, given the refs card-happy approach few players would have dared to put a foot in should one of our players decided to scamper into the penalty box.

Could have Rooney and Owen upfront and not score with the service they are being given. Need a midfileder who can actually pass the ball.

Our problem was that the crosses were aimed straight at the penalty spot from deep outside of the box which is easy for goalkeepers and central defenders to deal with. What we needed was somebody to have got past the defenders to the bye line and then pull the ball back to the penalty spot.

Agree compeletly with that.

It is a nightmare playing against 9 men whose only intention is to defend. BUT you would like to think that we have the guile to get through it. We didn't.

We played our best football before they had anyone sent off and I wish it had stayed that way. Nine men defending always makes for tedious, frustrating, low entertainment football, even if you do get a goal or two. We couldn't do that and it seemed we didn't have the quality of player to change things.

I agree we played much better before any of the sending offs. I was even impressed with the way Thomson was getting forward in the first 15 mins. Unfortunately our whole team performance went downhill fairly soon after that and never improved.

The fault has to lay firmly with management yesterday.
