it is better england come 2nd in the group than 1st (all hypothetical though)

We got lucky. France were by far the better side. I think we have nothing to offer. A reasonable defence but a weak midfield and an impotent attack. Rooney has played 9 games in the euro's and world cup finals and has never scored a single goal. We have nothing to offer and will be found out on Friday when Sweden beat us. All in all England have been shit for nearly 50 years and won absolutely f*** all.

Not sure how this relates to your previous post? You said We drew a game, whooptie do. Is the bar now so low now we are going mental about drawing a game against France ?

France are a very good side, I'd have bitten off hands for that result, as I stated, France are undefeated in a number of games so that makes a draw against that a pretty good result? I might be wrong...

And Rooney has never scored in a major competition? Without looking, didn't he score in euro 2004?

8 years ago? Brilliant. From my knowledge Rooney seems to choke on the biggest stages of all.

To be honest from what I have seen so far we will, as usual, come up very very short against the first decent side we play.

Firstly, I don't give a shit if he's pony or not, I was just asking a question based on US pathetic fact. Secondly, that is pretty much it.

This was 8 years ago though wasn't it?

Yeah Euro 2004. When he plays, England are a better side than without him.

A draw against France was a good result. 1st competitive game for Roy, been in the job less than 2 months against a side who was 21 games unbeaten that has been building for 2 years and quite simply has better players than us. We could have tried to be more adventurous and attacking and we would have lost. I'll take a new England that grinds out results as opposed to the normal glorious failure.

This. I am on England at 15-1 to win the euro's. Let's hope we continue to grind. Greece did it.

Since 2004 Rooney has not scored a single goal in the Euro's or World Cup. As you say only a blinkered England fan could say we were anything other than inept, tactical and technical plankton and miles behind numerous other teams. If we scrape through the group stage , which I doubt, it is a sure as daylight after night that we will choke and get knocked out by one of the teams left who know how to knock a ball around. Even Poland played at a far higher tempo and technical ability. A neutral would say of England " same old, same old ", nothing to fear here.

You do realise we weren't in the 2008 Euros, right? And wasn't he injured in the 2006 world cup?

I am quoting the fact in the last 9 games in a major tournament he has not scored a goal.

if we come second.....

quarters - 23rd june
semis - 27th june
final - 1st july

if we come first......

quarters - 24th june
semis - 28th june
final - 1st july..........ONLY 3 DAYS LATER....FROM WARSAW TO KIEV

but saying that.....if we come second, the semis are in donetsk, then back to krak(one)ov), then back to Kiev...

silly either way.....but then, we wont get passed the 2nd round anyways.....

The England players will be on a beach by the 25th of June!

But if we finish 2nd then we play the winner of Spain's group

second is looking much better.

If we're runners up we will play winners of spains group, though that me be croatia or Italy.

however if we win group D and the quarter, it will invariably be harder........ we are almost certainly going to get Germany in the semis

1/4 (1) - winners of Group D (englands group) play runner up C (could still be spain runners up, if croatia win tonight)

1/4 (2) Winner Group B (germany) - runner up group A (Czech, Poland, Russia)

Semi - Winner 1? V Winner 2 (germany?)

If we finish runners up we may have 1/4 against Croatia.

Then Semi from winners of other 1/4 - runner up B (Portugal, Denmark) and winners of A (Russia)

All very up in the air until the second group games are over.

After the opening draw, there's no guarantee that Spain will win their group. Croatia could well give them and Italy a good game. Ireland I can see getting NUL points.

As for England's group, I think it will be very tight until the final whistle of the last matches. France only seem to play with the handbrake on, it remains to be seen how England will get on when they have to take the game to the opposition, Sweden are not out of it and Ukraine seem to be riding a wave of optimism as a host country.
