No not directly. Or indirectly. Just bullshit,

According to the club, 95% of people now use tablets or smart phones. That’s a clear mandate, get over it.

Increasingly. Laptops.

I work in IT providing all manner of IT services and I can assure you laptops are not becoming redundant - and never will. Desktops possibly.

As for the club making their media app only - very poor show. I can't stand watching video on my phone - I always watch interviews etc on my laptop because it has a decent size screen.

The club will say 95% of users access via the app now, not sustainable to run 2 platforms and have a huge cost burden to satisfy 5% blah blah

I don't believe for one second it takes very long to upload video to the website - the very same video that needs uploading for the app.

Increasingly. Laptops.

As Dazzer said in an earlier post, the apps are for phones/tablets

I disagree there. Laptops are still very popular, whereas tablets which were once all the rage are becoming less so having been most popular about 7 or 8 years ago. I am a computing teacher and there's no way (although I love my pixel) that I can be bothered to mess about on the albion app to watch interviews or listen to games etc. It would suit someone who is on the move a lot, but really, at home where most people are when a match is on, turn the radio on or use a computer.

Think audio commentary etc will still be available as now through the match centre (website) on your laptop ……the apps are for phones/tablets.

So, do people really prefer to watch, say, match highlights on a tiny phone screen rather than on a laptop or tablet?

Isnt the issue more the club would need to support another platform and all the associated architecure which goes with this.....?

I usually watch on my ipad or if I want a much bigger screen my Mac, plan to do the same next season.

I thought you were a caring socialist who is concerned for the ones who are marginalised? ???

I am a caring socialist. But GT49er very much believes in the will of the people so in this instance I do not have an issue; he has got what he fundamentally believes in. We're voting with our devices...and at 95% it's clear what we want and that's a shiny new club app on our shiny new phones and tablets.

It seems clear that the club have made a conscious business decision to drag their customer base kicking and screaming into the age of smartphones, and to have progressively less patience with the refuseniks

I think socialism makes decisions based upon circumstance rather than choice. But I get the schadenfreude.

Business decision is probably the right phrase. I know very little about smartphones as I've never had one and never will, but I can't imagine it is too much work/cost involved in operating two platforms, so presumably, there is some advantage to forcing people onto smartphones (more difficult to block ads? more data to sell to the CCP? dunno).

I have no idea how much it costs to run superfluous platforms BUT it is additional funding which will detract from the player budget. If the club are willing to let me know how much extra funding the player budget will receive I am happy to paint the figure on the side of a bus to help promote Barber's stance. I'm sure GT49er will fully understand.

You mean the platform they already support ? i.e. the website ? I can't see them removing the website so a few minutes to upload the video doesn't seem over the top. The video file will be the same for all platforms. It's very short sighted to stop uploading to the website.

cost of supporting content on a website, once you have one, is negligable. the driver is you can control access better with a mobile app, and phone users better conditioned to pay for incremental services. look forward to more premium services in the future.
