Did she actually say ‘primate’

I genuinely thought MVP meant Most valuable Player?

This really. Context and intent. Folks don't so much get upset as love a good pile on. There's a lot of emotional stimulation in getting angry about stuff.

Well the BBC have used quotation marks in the article, if she didn't say it they would be in big trouble:

So she’s thinking one thing and said another - loosely connected - that popped into her head (we’ve all done it), which in this case had unfortunate connotations……..if the MVP series had been a Masterchef spin-off about Puddings and she’d said ‘most valuable pudding’ it would have been laughed off. She’s from Indian heritage herself. Storm in a teacup with people desperate to be offended. She’s apologised - that should be the end of it

Nope neither whooshing or joking. I don't think the thing I said is likely, however it was exactly the acronym that was mentioned so in my opinion it had context. Feel free to ignore or deride.
