Attended a dinner in London night.

One of the Comedian's gags was...…

"I went to the Doctors last week and he said I've now got to have a pacemaker, so I've a got little Kenyan bloke comes everywhere with me now"

As one of the organisers of the dinner I was approached at the end and told by a guest they found that gag had crossed the line.

No doubt I will get flamed on here by some, but sorry with all that's currently going on in the country and the world in general, are we danger of becoming a little too precious?

The comedian is missing a trick because he could have increased the diversity in this joke……

"I went to the Doctors last week and he said I've now got to have a pacemaker, so with Gerry and Frankie Marsden unavailable I've now got got little Kenyan bloke comes everywhere with me now"

That said you would probably invite offence from bed wetting scousers but then and the bed wetting anti racists are 2 cheeks of the same joyless arse.

The problem with stereotyping is it's insidious. It's a bit of a laugh until it's used to discriminate against someone. As individuals we have to decide if we want to condone incipient prejudice, or not.

The problem is it has no boundaries.

There are some who continue to take apparent pleasure in claiming that those voting for a certain political party or vote in a certain manner in referenda are 'morons' or alike.

You can’t determine whether someone else is offended. I don’t find it offensive personally but I’m not a teeny Kenyan (if I was, I’d be a lot faster)

The main thing here is, it is quite simply a shite joke, a real down right drunk dad joke.

along with....

My uncle was the first man to be fitted with a lead pacemaker. He died last week.
We buried him with a heavy heart.

Kenya isn't a race, it's a nationality. There a lot of different cultures which exist within Kenya and the people are not all the same.

Any one of them could produce a good runner.

A lot of stereotyping is funny - that’s what makes the difference between people from different countries , as long as it’s done in a kindly way . We are not all the same . The French like their young children to be seen but not heard , the Germans have no humour , The Chinese all work in restaurants etc , the Irish are lazy and the Scots always drunk it’s all stereotypes but it’s not harmful if the humour is portrayed in an obvious way. Little Britain was great at doing that , everyone was stereotyped and it was hilarious.

Really you are joking? So it's an insult to state a complimentary fact fact that Kenya have produced a lot of world class distance runners? My sister in law is from Finland so I'd better ignore any joke that references the fact that they historically they are hot at rally driving?

So let me guess " little Kenyan " is both heightist with a hint colonial slavery? For gods sake!

In my opinion it's a racist "joke" and you're not going to change my mind just like I'm not going to change yours because some of your reasoning and morals are different.

It's not complimentary, it is racial stereotyping. It's punching down not up. That is also what Little Britain was which is why both Walliams and Lucas have apologised for the show.

It is clearly racist as there was no need to mention nationality and imply a merely supporting role for that nation.

I don't find it offensive, myself, but I suspect some would.

Did the ‘joke’ get a good laugh from the audience?

You're stereotyping yourself, reads like you think all Kenyans look a like. A Kenyan could look like any person from anywhere on the planet. Dev Patel's parents are Kenyan. Does he fit your stereotype of what Kenyans look like?

You're also suggesting that Kenyans are some how beneath other people because when you say other people are punching down you're telling everyone you think they are lower in some kind of way.

Thing is, I can demonstrate why voting a certain way in a referendum, is moronic, if the person states they wanted something they already had, or get rid of something that didn't exist, by voting the way they did. Trouble is, if you are a moron, you might not understand that and just think I am being rude, and equate it with casual racism.

Absolutely backwards and nonsensical reasoning.

The "joke" is based on a racial stereotype therefore racist.

Surely there's been a mix up between the GP and the hospital? I imagine what the after dinner speaker required was a medical device that generates electrical impulses delivered by electrodes to cause the heart muscle chambers to contract and therefore pump blood to regulate the function of the electrical conduction system of the heart? Still, I imagine the company will be nice.

To be fair the OP didn’t mention whether the doctor was hospital or GP based. Like you I would prefer getting that sort of advice from a specialist at the former. What was the joke bit again ?

Funniest thing I've read here all week.

Well played.
