I spent last night listening to dozens of versions of this song. Springsteen never ceases to amaze me. He has a seemingly endless back catalogue of songs that are better than pretty well anything else that's out there. He's probably written dozens that are better than this one, but it really is a beautiful love song. It's interesting to see how different artists interpret this track. The EmmyLou Harris version is truly exceptional. Personally I like to hear it infused with pedal steel, and some people have been brave enough to attempt that.

I've worshipped Jackson Browne for since 1976, but is Jackson really more talented than Bruce? Is anyone ? I'm beginning to have my doubts. Then there is the live concert experience. I've seen some incredible concerts over the last 50 years, but even Jackson at his best couldn't surpass Springsteen. I don't think anyone can. I feel blessed to have lived through the life and times of two of the best singer songwriters ever to set foot on the planet.

After about 10 minutes, I'd probably start marching along.

Been a Springsteen fan (on and off) since I was at Uni in California in 1980 listening repeatedly to Darkness on the Edge of Town.

currently going through a phase of needing to hear Streets of Philadelphia quite often.

the perfectly symmetrical intro, exactly 20 seconds of purely tympanic rhythm, and then exactly 20 seconds of continuous tone keyboard overlay, brilliant.

Darkness on the edge of Town is one of my favourite albums of all time.

Raw, heartfelt, and haunting. Made when he was successful but was still hungry.

A great song but for me, at least today, Downbound Train is my favourite. Tomorrow it will probably change.

Although nicked by more fillums and TV than Moby has, it remains a piece that constantly produces new elements amongst the layers.
A magnificent piece of music.
