Is the away stand fair?

I'm curious what you all think. A friend of mine took this photo before the Man City game, do we really think it's fair to dump the away fans in that godforsaken stand a mile from the pitch? They pay £20 to sit there aswell, is that not completely unfair?! It's not right that away fans have to come to Brighton and watch a match from a mile away! It's not fair, and I think it is something that really needs to be looked at.

THink we should close that stand now that we don't sell out Withdean. Problem is, unless it's a nothing club or a small away following (Cheltenham or Barnet) I doubt it would be allowed to stick the away fans in the East stand, where at the end of the match they would spill out directly into the majority of the Brighton fans. Perhaps they could go where they used to go in the North-East stand?

I know it's difficult, but something should be done about it. In proper stadiums, away fans fill out into the same places as the home fans, it's no problem. In a bigger space, granted.

Why shouldn't I care? I have friends who support other clubs in this league, and I'd like for them to come down and enjoy the match here. But they can't. unless they get smuggled into a home end. It's so out of order on them, and it's embarrasing for me as a fan.

No, it's not fair. But in a full Withdean (we wish), some spectators would obviously have to sit in the Worthing End. So, if it were not assigned to away fans, would we prefer some of our own to have a view that's a full 50 metres from stand front to touchline?

At other stadia you pay less for restricted view seats, and this is no different.

If we were charging them full price, then perhaps you could say it was unfair.

Yes it's unfair that away fans have to suffer that stand but how unfair is it that we fans have had to go to Withdean for so long ?

There's the crux of your argument. Withdean isn't a proper stadium, away fans pay less to be there, so it's fair enough.

Photos are always misleading on things like this anyway (I took photos from the top tier at Wembley last year which looked like I could hardly make out the pitch) - i have spoken to several people who have been in the away end and not had a massive problem with it.

On the continent loads of clubs have running tracks with several layers of advertising boards, and fans still sit down the front when its full.

I was surprised to read in the Walsall programme that Withdean was voted only the 4th worst ground in Britain in a poll in The Observer in 2004. I was surprised because I don't remember the poll as well as the fact that three grounds were deemed worse.

I still think ours is the worst, but at least we have a light at the end of the tunnel and the rest of the town is somewhere people want to go, unlike the absolute worst ground in Britain

Bit surprised that Selhurst is sixth worst, there are better grounds but but there are also a lot worse. Factor in that it's pretty easy to get to (although not easy to get out of thanks to the moronic Met Filth) it certainly compares very favourably with grounds like Wycombe and Reading on that score.
