For me Adams ruined this club. Lynch and Elphick complimented each other brilliantly. Elphick strong in the air, Lynch fast and composed on the ball. I don't buy this bollocks of Butters being the main reason behind the defence's success. The team kept clean sheets away at Leeds and Forest with both Lynch and Elphick at the back and unfortunately Adams incompetance destroyed that partnership

If the problem is what Forster revealed in yesterday's Argus - that only a percentage of the players back the manager - maybe it goes back to before Adams' time.
Sorry, you're going to have to explain that one. Surely the fact that a percentage apparently don't back Slade cannot be anybody's 'fault' other than Slade's? I'm struggling to see how one could say "15% of the players don't back Slade - and it's all the fault of Dean Wilkins." (Or maybe even McGhee).

...because he had Guy Butters playing alongside him.........who was released by........errr........Dean Wilkins.

Agree Butters was great alongside him but he'd reached the point when he just couldn't play against many pacey strikers. Wilkins was right to release him and would have brought in another experienced centre half but we all know what happened next. Instead, Adams signed Virgo who sadly, is not the player he was.

Because Guy was 90, and retirement to his villa was overdue.
You can't blame DW for that!

I think when you release a player the level of that players next club goes a long way in judging how good the decision was. Guy signed for Havant & Waterlooville

R.S. has surely had the time and money to clear up any mess left by his predecessor. The present management team are unable to get the players to play to the standard that ,on paper at least, they should be capable of.What Slade has in common with Adams,is strange team selections and tactics. He talks a better game than Micky, but that doesn't earn us any points. There are doubts over fitness levels, coaching and now according to Forster, only a % of the players are behind the manager!!Not good.We may well be in a relegation scrap again and a load of loan players will be bought in to get us out the shit, but really that does nothing for the long term future of the club.
If we lose our next game,I fully expect R.S.to be sacked, but if we win and he stays, the future may be even bleaker!

This is true. We came 7th with those two as a partnership, so it can't have been too bad can it......

Pork pie land.
It takes a long time to turn around the mentality of a football club, it's a long term process. I think you have to consier that Russell inherited a squad starring some truly awful players and not all of them have flown the coup, some of them are even being pressed into first team duty! I think that come the end of this season, when contracts are up and the tosh are released, we'll be in an even better position next season. This season might not be a bundle of laughs and it might not be pleasant to endure.... but Slade needs the season to get the club turned around and get us moving forward.

Faith, patience and respect.

I bet you were spouting similar crap last year. Give Micky time... ....

Do you really think that 14 games constitutes 'time to clear up any mess left by his predecessor'? You can't count last season as that was a rescue job with the (then) current squad to stay up as RS arrived after the transfer window had been and gone. Changing the manager twice a season is not going to solve anything

Is that another dig at Wilkins? You really should come clean and tell us what you know if you are going to keep casting aspersions.

Hard to argue with any of that.

Adams may have caused problems and wilkins might have lost the plot somewhat according to Dick but neither had anywhere near the money to spend that Slade has spent. I would guess that in the 3-odd yrs they were both in charge they probably spent 30% of what Slade has and that is the crux of the matter..can we trust Slade to spend again because maybe 1/2 of the players he has brought in are actually better than what we already had !
