The point about Sunderland and Derby is absolute right in relation to our circumstances. We do have a hard core of support of around 4,500 - 5,000 simply because of the number of season tickets sold. We then have 700 for away fans which only leaves another 1,300 or so tickets left for anybody else who wants to watch a game.
The problem we are facing now is that everybody is getting pissed off watching football at Withdean. It's unwelcoming at best, everybody gets soaked or freezing cold, and the football that is being served up is not that great. It's hard to attract the so-called 'fairweather' supporters to games, because let's face it, who wants to have to shell out £50-£70 to take a family to a game where the facilities are nothing short of shocking.
Relegation is not the end of the world by any stretch of the imagination. Once we get Falmer, then yes, staying in this division where you are likely to get gates of 17 - 20,000 every week will be far more important, as league one football may mean only gates of 10 - 12,000.
