So same result record as this time last season, when we also played Leicester in the sixth match on a Sunday at 2pm

That was the fifth match last season. Palace was the 6th.

F*** me!! I’ve just been reading the earlier posts on this thread and come to the conclusion that we have have some right fickle fans on this forum. I wonder if they’ll step up to the plate and admit that their opinion was wrong or are they just going to stay schtum until we hit a bad patch and come climbing out of the woodwork - again.

Which I think is more understandable. Very few have attended football and not made heat of the moment, emotion led comments which don't stand up to any scrutiny. I've got no problem with that.

It's if the game has finished for an hour and you're still talking bo****** and worse committing it to print, then you can safely conclude that person is an idiot.

What do people think about Leicester fans wanting Rodgers gone after 6 poor games ? He won them the FA Cup & Community Shield and they finished fifth , fifth and eighth in the last three seasons. However, even the media now seem to think he needs to go.

There's threads on Graham Potter on pretty much every other PL clubs board, all unanimous on how good he is and how he should be a shooin for whichever big 6 club next has a vacancy. On ManUs RedCafe site a lot reckon they've missed the boat on him and are worried he'll end up at one of their rivals, with debate on which of Chelsea, Spurs, Liverpool or City would suit him best.

One of my favourite posts in this discussion is from a Palace fan:

"Please can someone just appoint him. Anyone at this point."

After 6 matches last season the record was W4 D1 L1

We then went on a run of 3 wins in 25 but it was still considered a very good season as results turned around again.

Perhaps shows, as anyone who has been to a Thai massage parlour will confirm , that a happy finish can make up for what happened beforehand.

Which were battling away wins at Burnley and Brentford, home win v Watford, rather fortunate home win v Leicester, home defeat v an ultimately shite Everton and a second best draw at Palace.

This year relatively comfortable away wins at ManU and West Ham, home win v Leeds, home thrashing of Leicester, away defeat at Fulham and a dominant point v a decent Newcastle.

Same points but it feels better (coz it is better)

As you ask, no comparison. Potter has so far always been on the step upwards and Leicester downwards. Their owner has lost over a £Billion this year on his airline and is running scared on investment.

It's quite interesting looking back on that period. Six straight defeats all through February and March.

Ultimately Potter got himself into trouble and, rather spectacularly, out of it again. I used the phrase at the time "ballet with wrestlers". The constant in those defeats was Duffy at the back, no pace in midfield and mostly Maupay up top.

We brought in Mwepu and Caicedo, moved Cucurella to LCB and BOOM. We've genuinely not looked back. That's why I'm happy this season that even though we've lost a couple of star players we have more consistent strength in depth.

I don't usually do smug, but I'm doing smug. It's a nice feeling looking at all the scribbles in this thread knowing I'm one of those who has backed him all the way through. Even after six defeats in a row I was convinced we were an extremely unlucky team who just needed the tide of fairness to turn.

Potter is a prime example of my theory that when a football team fails it is often not a coaching/managerial issue. Also my theory that too many chairman and supporters let their egos get in the way of just enjoying football.

I'd rather watch the Albion playing enjoyable football in the Championship than stinking the top flight out.

Even after six defeats in a row I was convinced we were an extremely unlucky team who just needed the tide of fairness to turn.

We weren't unlucky playing possession football with Duffy at CB and Moder and Lallana providing the momentum. The Burnley game was awful and the Villa game no better. Yet just a few weeks later North London was ours. All down to Potter changing the players and system.

Has to be sacked if lose versus norwich. He’s lost the plot but the cracks have been there whole season by getting lucky in nearly every game.

However not his fault he’s been given nothing to spend.

He will get stuff wrong. But that kind of underlines it really. Bloom allowed him to get stuff wrong, he saw the bigger picture.

I know that I embraced Potter for the first season but found him increasingly hard to defend. The Premier League demands instant results and so did I. I loved Hughton and still do. An honourable working class man who got us to the promised land and always, always carried himself.

My mistake was expecting Potter to then kick us on instantly and it was much harder to get my head round watching us initially on TV in BCD games. I clicked back with Potter when I saw us live again against Man City. That was the game where I got it.

But even since then he's a "group of games" manager. It would be much easier as a fan if we either won or lost by a goal or two and alternated those results regularly. But under GP we're a feast or famine team (so far). Calendar years with only one home win. Six defeats on the bounce with one goal. But also our best ever finish and now, well, now.......this!

It's no wonder folk are a a little skittish.

As for The Boy I was chastising him for exactly this in the West Lower bar after the game on Sunday. I was hoping for him to earn his stripes out of ten years (at least) of mediocrity and shiteness, gaining love from the odd away win at Barnsley. The little ****er is spoiled rotten.

The Caicedo-Mwepu-Bissouma CM trio was THE turning point.

Potter deserves credit for that, he would’ve been part of the team that recruited Caicedo and Mwepu, he expertly coached all three.

In addition, he adapted after sticking strictly to a possession based team, starting with playing it around the back. No longer, we don’t now dominate teams on possession stats, we can and do play it long, mixing it up.

We’re transformed from the team and tactics 9 months ago.
