patriotic almost a swear word these days
I was being ironic.
Of course it isn't. I'm patriotic.
But when applied by barren to racist thugs in London, it is a debasement of language.

It was a reference to the resident tosser's post I was quoting.
Is this better?
"You can be patriotic, mindless thugs going around spitting & attacking women, fighting with police and pissing on memorials"
you can be patriotic and just be normal
just a thought
Of course you can, but the ones out there today were anything but...agreed?

Regardless of the merits of your own assertion, could his statement that its possible to be 'Patriotic and normal' ever be true, in your opinion?Of course you can, but the ones out there today were anything but...agreed?

I picked the thread up at the point I commented, and I commented on what I saw, which strongly pointed towards you holding a view that being a Patriot was a pejorative term.
I feel that conflating Patriotism with some louts' behaviour is lazy at best. At the risk of sounding flip, the world is complex, and not neccessarily monochrome.
I have no idea why you had that impression, as I clearly said it was possible to be patriotic and behave normally. It seemed that some were describing the attendees today as patriotic. They may well be, but they certainly showed no sign of being normal (normal, as in acceptable behaviour).
