I don't mind the Dutch personally, although Robbens sniper routines are tiresome, especially from such a gifted player.

Of all the teams in the semi's Brasil get me fed up the most with their antics, although I said pre tournament I think they'll win it and still think they'll probably sneak it. I just want the best footballing team to win it really, whoever that turns out to be.

Bobby Robson should have brought on Beasant for Shilton in 90 would have given us a much better chance of progression in the shoot out.

Hmm. Not sure that logic really works, unless you would argue that there has never been a good substitution, since we never get to see what would have happened if the sub hadn't been made.

I'm not sure what the BBC team were making such a fuss about though. I'm sure that both keepers knew the deal, and much as it must have been disappointing to be taken off, even when knowing it was inevitable, Krul would have had the same sense of disappointment when he was told that, whilst he was their best penalty stopper, he wouldn't be able to play in the actual game.

But not against one of the best defences/midfields in the world. Robben's having a good WC and seems to have gained pace! But wouldn't be afforded the space and naivety against say Germany.

I agree. The BBC team seemed to think it was a shocking substitution, but both keepers knew what was happening and both celebrated when the pens were saved. It appeared to be a prearranged decision.

I have been saying for years that every time we name a tournament squad, the third goalie should be a penalty specialist ( e.g Mark Crossley ) All goalkeepers have different skill-sets and Shilton couldn't save a penalty for toffee and Seaman was hardly any better. Van Gaal demonstrated last night that it is a valid call that managers can make. Outfield players are brought on because they are penalty specialists...why shouldn't goalies come on?
It could have made the difference between us being regular ' near-missers ' or actually winning one or two tournaments.

That's why I'm hoping for a Germany v Holland final. They are the only two teams I've seen play with any fluidity on a conststant basis.

Whilst Krul was acting a dick it did make me wonder if that was the reason why he had come on, you couldn't imagine the other keeper doing them antics.
