Following the Christmas thread. I love Christmas but New Years Eve is a pile of shite.

Pubs rammed, 15 deep at the bar, lucky to get a drink in an hour, extortionate pricing, admission charges for some pubs etc etc. I HATE N.Y.E.

And all for what eh? One day it's December 31st, the next day it's January 1st. Big f***ing deal.

Yes it's bollocks. I've never had a good night on NYE, and always spent more than a normal night out. Also there's decent alternatives if you're desperate to have a big one. Pubs are better on christmas eve and there's decent club events on boxing day and new years day now.
There's money to be had if you can be bothered, a few years back I made about £80 giving my mates lifts to and from their nights out.
The last two years I've gone to bed early, I doubt this year will be any different.

Its what you make of it.
I'd agree, pubs/clubs is a write-off. We usually have a few friends round for a games night, or go round theirs. Nice takeaway, wine and beer flowing, bit of Pictionary or Wii Sports, pause for the chimes, vomit on the way home.
Marvellous.

NYE is basically just like any other night out except everywhere is far too crowded and you pay twice as much for drinks and taxis, a complete waste of time.

Having said that I did spend NYE in Sydney once with a view of the entire harbour with all the fireworks going off, now that was worth it.

Over-rated.

For reasons we'll not go into, I always make a point to be asleep at the turn of the year.

Bottle or two of champagne, go to bed with the missus and watch Jools Holland's hootenany is what I do these days. I hate going out on NYE

It's a nice night to spend with friends, round someone's house or up a hill or on the beach with pills, mulled wines and vodka jellies and warm warm clothing. Pubs are best avoided.

NYE is complete bollocks, Shoreham pubs over charge entry fee then they charge too much for Beer anyway...then they have the audacity to give you a discount if you dress up like a complete twat!?!...which in turn costs MORE money from a Fancy Dress Shop!

Xmas Eve is always the way to go, this years theme is Hawaiian Shirts & Bad Xmas Jumpers!

yep, shit. think ive had only one or two good ones out as an adult. pay stupid money to go to an overcrowed place. i dont know how more places dont get shut down, reckon the council/fire just all stay at home or have a big party themselves). definatly best if its a house party.

The worst thing about NYE? Auld Land Syne. I hate the song. I hate the way you link hands with a drunken stranger when it comes on. I hate the fact its essentially Scottish. I hate the fact no-one knows the words. Why can't we have a different song for New Year? I'd settle for something by Steps which beats that dirge.

NYE = SHITE.

Getting pissed on New Years day is usually much better.

I am off for my second annual visit to Scortland. The Scots do celebrate New Years Eve, but the big party is reserved for New Years Day.

NYE = 'Gentle' House party
NYD = Visit four or five different parties/houses during the day and then a mega party in the evening.

The Scottish DO know how to par-tay.

brighton, actually
like vegster said.

just no dirrty scottish ladies to have a drunken fumble with, at a random pub off Lewes Road..

or sharing a taxi (when it was much cheaper!) to what was the Hopleaf, in Cooksbridge, for a cracking beerfest and MASSIVE party popper fight.

nowadays, most years spent with fanily or friends, sharing some fireworks and bucket sized cocktails.
ah, those were the daze..
