I would have both Hughton and Poyet ahead of him.

The same Gus Poyet that can't stay in a job for more than 6 months in the last 7 years?

I totally disagree with you. I think everything about the club is growing and developing well, the squad of players is extraordinary. I don't think the manager is as good as the squad and I think he's been overtaken by the rapid progression of the club in much the same way that Chris Hughton was. I think this manager has had 3 years, a long time in modern football, that's not short-term. He has been given every possible tool but to me doesn't demonstrate that he's worked out how best to use it.

Sorry, but he just hasn't. He's never had a reliable competent goalscorer, and the club sold his only two centre backs with any pace and chose not to replace them. You can argue that where we are three years on from his appointment is fairly underwhelming, we've had the same problems season after season, so although I disagree with that I do see where you are coming from. However with the squad we have I'm not sure that most managers would be doing massively better

What does that have to do with his time at us?

He got lucky with a struggling League one club - hasn’t been able to replicate that since.

I agree - Potter has done well with what he has had at his disposal - he has had a lot more weapons and talent that Hughton did - but he has also maximised what is there (also like I think Hughton did). He is not perfect - but look at the shambles that is Man Utd - dumping Potter does not guarantee any improvement.

Ok cool.

Well, regardless of that 'luck', during his time with us, the results were fantastic.

You clearly weren’t at the play off semi at the Amex against Palace. He was a right **** from pre kick off to his post match interview. I lost all respect for him that evening, and at the televised match where he was a pundit and claimed he’d been sacked on air.

He’s really not all that and can’t hold a candle to CH and GP as a coach/manager imo, his ego gets in the way

His achievements were in division three for us although he was very well backed in the Championship where he choked

I would have both Hughton and Poyet ahead of him.

Poyet who convinced Bloom to let Murray go and break the bank for CMS who squandered the chance for a more than able squad that should have gone up to the PL in those first two Championship seasons, then had the audacity, the damn right front to suggest the club reached a ceiling, not him. That Poyet? The one who then failed in each manager's job he took thereafter?

Poyet took us from the bottom of League 1 to the brink of the PL.

Regardless of his personality and lack of success since, you can't question the amazing job he did for us.

The discussion wasn’t whether Poyet did an amazing job, it’s whether he did a better job / was a better Brighton manager than Graham Potter - that’s the statement you made, not whether Poyet did a great job or not.

I can. He ****ed up the playoffs and he expended too much energy touting himself every time we played a big team once we got to the Championship. How many Albion games did you go to when he was manager?

He was great for us in League One and he did get some great players to come to the Albion but he was a manager who played with fear once we got into the Championship. In short he underachieved when the chips were down. His touting was cringeworthy

How he didn’t get that title winning side up in those 2 years is anyone’s guess. We were better and more consistent than Southampton, and somehow they went up automatically that first season and we barely scrapped 10th. We were all wrapped up in shiny new stadium but that was a huge failure on the momentum and belief we had, and all because he didn’t rate Murray and couldn’t keep a front line together that destroyed everyone in front of it.

Considering the number of seasons we have ever had in the top division, what precisely is par?

Boom - spot on...

We have SO many entitled fans that appear to think we should be better than we are, and if Graham Potter can't do it we will jolly well bring in someone who can...

I think we had a cracking start in the Championship, I think we won 4 out of the first 5 games and were unbeaten till Leicester beat us in mid September.
We should of at least made the play off that season

We won 5 out of 6 and were top of the league ahead of that Leicester game. Including the Leicester game we then went P9 W0 D4 L5. By Bonfire night we were 13th.

Well, it's difficult to compare apples to apples...

But Poyet took us from the bottom of League 1 to the brink of the PL.

Potter took us from lower PL to... lower PL.

Obviously, it's not that black and white. But that's why for me, Poyet is ahead of Potter.

I don't know why you keep suggesting I wasn't at the games. For reference, I was at the majority of home and away games.

You have some strange revisionism going on, seemingly based on your dislike of Poyet's personality.

100% this.

With a car crash and obscenely lucrative career since leaving us, confirming his limitations.

A stack of Amex draws and losses, we were incredibly low scoring, with a triangle of tedious passes between the goalie, Greer and El-Abd. Away teams came with deckchairs for their CB's.
