Players are skilful in different ways. Mitoma doesn't need stepovers or elásticos to bamboozle a defender. A feint, a shift of body weight and a burst of pace is all he needs. And all the while the ball is glued to his foot. A bit like Ryan Giggs or, dare I say it, Vicente.

Plus he can finish. Which other player could've scored that goal he got against Liverpool? You know the one I mean. Or the goal against Wolves the other day.

Yes, it doesn't sound romantic, and I suspect Mitoma would love it, but he's the most efficient in maximising his skillset.
With you on that Liverpool goal too. It was outrageous skill. Three touches in milliseconds, all sublime. It was my GotS, followed by Julio at Chelsea, then Julio against City.
I was lucky enough to be pretty close to Mitoma's continuing acceleration against Wolves.

I wasn't old enough then to have a considered opinion now, but when I started watching us, Neil Smillie and Steve Penney were very exciting to watch. There was something about tricky wingers in the 80s that has really stayed with me, and Mitoma is certainly in their orbit.

He hasn't made too many cut-backs at to the bye-line compared to last season, maybe defenders have taken note, but he's dangerous on his right too. A thrilling player!

The most devastating wingers we've had in the 40 years I've been watching, RELATIVE TO THE LEVEL WE WERE PLAYING AT were probably Buckley and Knockaert (in the Championship).

Big mentions though, for Penney, Lualua and Bennett (in League One) and of course Kaoru Mitoma.

I’d go with what you’ve said 100% but I’d put Mitoma up there with Knocky and Buckley. He’s different level. The mentions are bang on too. KLL in league 1 and the champs was unreal. Buckley too.

He was knackered towards the end of the season clear to see, he hadn’t lost his touch.

Mitoma is amazing isn’t he! Even better when Pervis is behind him enabling him to push high up the pitch.

Everyone saying Vicente seems massively bias to nostalgia. He was incredible of course, but we’re at a different level now. I’d say there’s a good few that were/are better technically than him just purely for the level at which they are performing to very high standards vs Vicente (for us) in the Championship
