You can stop briefly to let a child board or alight in a bay or on a single or double yellow (as long as there are no yellow kerb blips & 'no loading' in operation).

So if there are 2 of you already in the car you can stop - but not in a disabled bay of course - whilst your passenger goes to fetch junior. If you feel twitchy whilst waiting, worried about a CEO then drive around the block but I wouldn't, not if collecting a child. It's an exemption and personally I would choose a yellow line as long as not obstructing a junction or narrow road.
