I'm not going to completely slag him off until I've heard his replacement, as there are a number of mediocre commentators out there who are worse than Motty.

However, it has to be said that his overreactions seem to have got worse as time has worn on, and his use of visual aids to check deflections, post/save, yellow cards etc is poor at best.

Really noticed with this competition how bad and irritating he has got - I would have been tempted to go with ITV had they been covering the final live, even with David Pleat! Now that says something.

I'm not much good with foreign languages but that one thing that really got to me was that Motson's pronunciation of some players' names seemed to be all over the place and changed from game to game and even during a game.

At the risk of asking a dumb question, is Aragones Spanish or Portuguese?

If it's the latter, that pronounciation would probably be right. If he's Spanish, then Motson is being a bit of a ponce. Mind you, Motty does also say 'Shtade de France'...

Aragones is a spaniard (born in Madrid).

I find it INTENSSHHLEY irritating how Motson insists on randomly "ssshh-ing" some foreign names that happen to have an S in them. He hasn't a clue whether he's pronouncing it right or not.

What happened to Greame Le Saux, he was being hailed as the new kid on the commentating block a couple of seasons ago...was pretty good too, but seems to have disappeared completely.

Le Saux was good, he was verbally offered the co-comentator job for England's world cup games in 2006 but they then went back on their word and gave the contract to Lawro. Le Saux quit the beeb over this.
